Wild tarberries are fruit that grow naturally on the surface of bodies of water, and can be found throughout the Commonwealth and Mount Desert Island. The fruit is capable of growing in freshwater lakes and streams, saltwater bogs, and even stagnant swimming pools. Wild tarberries differ from cultivated tarberries in their dark coloration, instead of the soft red color of the latter.
