I'm taking most of the boys west to go check out this vault we heard about. Stay here and keep an eye on things until we get back, and keep a closer eye on the Fiends - those guys are crazier than Scrambler. If there's any trouble, radio ahead.
”— The bugged note supposed to be found on the tableThe Whittaker Farmstead is a location in Fallout: New Vegas.
Background[]
A small farmstead on the edge of the mountains, set up by Samuel Cooke to act as an outpost, keeping tabs on surface activity by the NCR and especially the Fiends.[1] Cooke himself led the main group to check out the rumor of a vault nearby.[2]
Points of interest[]
The homestead is in surprisingly good shape. The front door is locked and the courtyard is abandoned (the mailbox has the usual random magazine), with powder gangers set up behind the house, with a cooking spit and a full brahmin roasting. Inside is a ham radio with a bugged note, a jar of Buffout and a small pile of caps. There's a copy of Future Weapons Today on the shelves in the kitchen.
The powder gangers are better armored than their counterparts down south, and may use plasma rifles looted from the Fiends who ventured nearby.
There's also a small unmarked cave entrance to the north-west of the farmstead, which leads to the sulfur caves beneath Vault 19.
Notable loot[]
- Oversized damaged garden gnome: In front of the farmstead.
- Two lootable graves are located west of the house.
Behind the scenes[]
- The note on the table displays the Ranger holodisk message, same as the one found near Theresa Lutz in Boulder City. It is a developer error, as a different note designated PowderGangRanchMsg was meant to be placed here, where Samuel Cooke mentions taking most of their gang to check Vault 19 and asking a few Powder Gangers to stay behind and keep an eye on things until their return, mostly to check on NCR and Fiends. Although this message can't be accessed in-game, it can still be found in the game files under the name PowderGangRanchMsg.
Appearances[]
Whittaker Farmstead appears only in Fallout: New Vegas.

On the northern side of Trail 159 is a small farmstead, recently taken over by a splinter group of Cooke's Powder Gangers. Attack, or Sneak around to the east side of the house and pick the lock [Easy] (and check the table outside for some ammo). On the hall table is more ammo, Buffout and the last message from Ranger Teresa Lutz. Check the rocks nearby for two graves; rob them with a Shovel."
