Valiant 12 was the name of the second moon landing mission that resulted in the Virgo III lunar lander landing on the Moon's surface.

Background

Valiant 12 was the second lunar mission and the second landing in history that landed on the Moon on November 14, 1969. The Valiant 12 carried a flag of the United States with the thirteen Commonwealth stars on it. Made from materials resistant to space radiation and unfiltered sunlight, it was recovered by the last manned lunar mission in 2052, and displayed at the Museum of Technology in Washington D.C.[1]

Behind the scenes

  • The Valiant 12 mission is the post-Divergence equivalent of the Apollo 12 mission. As with Valiant 11, the date of the landing (November 14) actually corresponds to the launch date for Apollo 12. Apollo 12 landed on November 19.

  1. Museum of Technology placard: "Valiant 12 Flag
This unusual flag was recovered from the surface of the moon by the very last manned flight to its surface in 2052. The flag is from the old "Valiant 12" Virgo III Lunar Lander that touched down November 14, 1969. It's remarkable condition can be attributed due to its construction; the flag is actually made of special materials to withstand the harsh environment of space."
