Although they do not accept outsiders in their ranks, the Brotherhood Outcasts do hire contractors to recover technology for them. The Lone Wanderer can take the job and then turn in valuable tech in at Fort Independence for supplies.
Walkthrough[]
The "quest" is started by talking to Protector Henry Casdin outside Fort Independence (Defenders Rockfowl and Morgan will point the player in his direction). The deal Casdin offers is simple: Supplies for tech. The Outcasts offer:
The quest is never deactivated, but has one wrinkle: Once the player has returned 50 points worth of technology (see table below), Casdin will state that they have proven themselves to be an ally of the Outcasts. Casdin will no longer confiscate Outcast power armor from the player and any Outcasts inside Fort Independence will be friendly to the player.
Scrap metal and alien blaster ammunition must be handed over in bulk, two and twelve respectively. Casdin will not accept unique versions of the items or any add-on/DLC items, as they are not covered by his dialogue script.
All item transfers are handled by scripts, removing them from the player's inventory and adding to Casdin's. A side effect of this mechanic is that items in Casdin's possession will have 100% condition. The player can abuse this mechanic to obtain free repair. Items can be stolen back through pickpocketing, using Paralyzing Palm/cryo grenades, or by knocking Casdin down with knock-down weapons (eg. Victory rifle or Gauss rifle). Note that if they player has not earned an ally status by trading in 50 points' worth of tech, Casdin will aggro if attacked. However, he will stop being hostile quite fast, including as little as 3 in-game hours (20 minutes).
