The Gilded Grasshopper is a quest that can be obtained within the Commonwealth, in Fallout 4..

Synopsis[]

An old friend of Nick Valentine, tracking down the case of his life. Is there really a treasure at the end of the trail, or will there only be more blood and tears?

Walkthrough[]

  • Pick up the holotape that Marty Bullfinch left for Nick Valentine and listen to it. It reveals that Nick's old detective partner has gone off treasure searching, and is hoping for Nick's assistance. Talk to Ellie afterwards to learn who Bullfinch is, and how he and Nick had a falling out a while back.
  • The objective is at the top of Faneuil Hall, where the gilded grasshopper is located (the player can always skip the holotape and just make a beeline for the statuette) will be found, as well as a note called Food for the Grasshopper. The gilded grasshopper, while unique, constitutes as junk in the Pip-Boy, and as such, can be scrapped for a rather hefty amount of basic resources. The body of Bullfinch is found a short distance away from the grasshopper, dead under unknown circumstances.
  • The note will lead to the grave of Shem Drowne, a copper smith from before the Great War. His grave is located at Copp's Hill Burying Ground. The graveyard is seen to have been taken over by feral ghouls, all of which must be dealt with in order to safely dig up Drowne's grave.
  • This bit of ghastly graverobbing completes the quest, yielding several bars of copper and silver, as well as a unique sword, a note, and Shem Drowne's skull.
