So... what is Vault City? Is it from a book or a game or what?

It is from the game Fallout, which is what this wiki is all about. Ausir 07:03, 7 April 2006 (CEST)

Some interesting info: if you use a Day Pass to enter the city, the guards will search your inventory for "illegal substances"; that means alcohol and drugs. Although the text says VC produces Mentats and Buffout, you won't be let inside if you have either of them. This can also prevent you from completing the alcohol ferrying quest, but not for long: savvy people can notice what I said :"search your inventory", which means that if you drop the contraband to the ground then collect it after you have been searched or giving it to NPCs will fool the guards. This can also let you complete the Jet smuggling quest for Dr. Troy if you are not a citizen yet (if you are one, you won't be searched). "How am I supposed to talk to Troy if I'm not a citizen and cannot get into the Vault?", you might ask. Well, there are two ways:

  • When nearing the guards, enter combat mode and run past them.
  • Use Mentat withdrawal to get your Intelligence below 4, then talk to the guys in the Customs Office. They'll believe you are a moron and put you into the Vault as a Servant. Catch is, you can leave freely without anyone raising a brow!

Annexed by NCR?[]

WHERE is it implied that Vault City is annexed. By who? FinalWish 01:54, April 26, 2011 (UTC)

Vault City: Technological edge of the NCR, it's explicitly mentioned in Fallout 2 that the NCR is after VC for its tech.

Which mission?[]

I cannot find the mission you are referencing in this scentance. "After a successful mission in Gecko Chosen One ended threat of raiders. Then he proved to Lynnete a NCR/Bishops alliance." Could you please tell me what it is?--Ant2242 22:13, 19 July 2012 (UTC)
Successful mission = optimizng the power plant. After Gecko, he did Raiders. --Languorous_Maiar 22:21, 19 July 2012 (UTC)

Why are all the links red?--Ant2242 (talk) 20:35, 29 May 2013 (UTC)

Something I think could be added to the page.[]

Sorry I just don't know where to add this.

Dan McGrew "{131}{}{Vault City? (he laughs) Those bigots would turn Redding into a slave-labor camp. They don't see anyone who's not one of their precious Citizens as being worth a warm bucket of spit. Spending my life bowing and scraping to those bigots isn't my idea of any kind of life.}"

Good find Ant. I'll bolt it onto the article :) Tagaziel (talk) 06:49, 13 July 2013 (UTC)

Thank you!! We REALLY need to go through the dialogue pages with a fine tooth comb. The stuff I've found randomly alone...--Ant2242 (talk) 06:56, 13 July 2013 (UTC)

That's one of the reasons I sift through them when time permits. That and to marvel at some truly outstanding writing. Tagaziel (talk) 12:34, 13 July 2013 (UTC)

I agree completely!--Ant2242 (talk) 13:04, 13 July 2013 (UTC)

Help please[]

I've gone through all the refs and some still escape me. If anyone could help clean these few up it would be greatly appreciated!!!!

27. Fallout Bible 8: and what & where?
28. Could this be elaborated?

All information is based on requirements for canon endings for Vault City and Gecko.

31. Could this be elaborated?

32. Where is this from?!

Lynette: "The Vault City that I helped establish was to outlast me and continue on for many more years. In the elections that occurred after the destruction of the remnants of the United States government, Senior Council Member McClure was appointed First Citizen and I retired to honorary council member status."

34. Where is this from?!

Lynette: " I was responsible for much of the legislation that followed in the years between NCR and our City."

57. NEEDS THE ENTIRE REF!!
63. Fallout Bible 6: Where and what?!?!?

Is Vault City independent?

Fallout 2 endings#Vault City

"The correspondence between NCR and Vault City continued, and a few years after the destruction of the Enclave, Roger Westin assumed the head of the NCR council. He immediately set limits for NCR's expansion north, and in a landmark settlement, passed an amendment that formally recognized Vault City's independence. Shortly after this settlement, Westin suffered a heart attack and retired from politics. He moved north to Vault City for medical treatment and eventually married Joann Lynette in the following year."

I've asked Chris Avellone about it. He explicitly stated that his is not a canon answer, but he felt that Vault City could not remain independent, there was too much stuff stacked against it. Personally, I do believe that the NCR is in control of Vault City. Raisins:
  1. The fact that the NCR controls Redding removes the single advantage VC could have. NCR controls the supply of gold and the economy, at least until the Brotherhood War comes and wipes its reserves.
  2. The collapse of Broken Hills and the uranium supply in NorCal would destroy Gecko and throttle Vault City, no matter the ending (needs amending).
  3. The fact that the NCR is in control of Redding, New Reno, Arroyo, maybe even Modoc and neighboring communities shows that there were no limits set for its expansion northwards, thus rendering the above ending an alternate one.
  4. Cass mentions Vault City pacifists specifically; the Vault City in Fallout 2 was quite belligerent and this would continue in case of independence.
  5. Her ending ("She made her way back West and passed away in a small shack outside of Vault City, the rose pendant still around her neck.") is not conclusive, but I'd like to point out that The West is used as a synonym for the NCR.
I'll dig moar. Tagaziel (talk) 08:27, 7 November 2013 (UTC)

How did Avallone respond? Could we image it and add it to the Vault?--Ant2242 (talk) 08:42, 7 November 2013 (UTC)

He mentioned that in his opinion Vault City had too much stacked against it to retain independence. He mentioned also that this is a strictly personal opinion that shouldn't be taken as statement of fact. Need to dig moar. Tagaziel (talk) 12:30, 7 November 2013 (UTC)

Hi, I treated digged up endings from Avellone as canon, because they didn't make into game only because narrator was too busy or they weren't having enough time.

"It's possible we decided not to do them because we ran out of time... or because Ron Perlman is an extremely muscle-bound fellow who looks like he can crush bricks in his hands."

Considering Marcus ending is completely canon (but was cut too) others are too. Especially that bible endings and game endings fit together to NV story (Westin getting descendant after 2242, Vault City going pacifist, everyone having cure for jet, FoA having combat implants and NCR having stuff from VC as supply.)
