Updated[]

I updated a page with a better description of the effects of the mezzer. I also deleted some pointless notes because of repetition or because they were personal stories. Please people, don't tell personal or over specific stories. --Clean Up 21:31, 23 February 2009 (UTC)

Ammo from Harith?[]

Someone posted that Lucky Harith may have Mesmetron power cells after he is invested in, I've never heard or experienced this, anyone care to confirm? --Clean Up 00:09, 21 May 2009 (UTC)

I tried this repeatedly after investing and never got anything. Anywhere else outside the add on's and Paradise Falls?

I have never seen them on sale in 2000+ hours of gameplay. I even kept Jack (Evergreen Mills) alive for 300 game hours however with no results. (He/the Raiders have slaves there so, it was worth trying.) I'm assuming that someone accidentally sold his/her own to Harith and did not realize it. Only to find him within 73 hours somewhere else with Mesmetron power cells on sale. Or was simply confused; MFCs for Mesmetron Power Cells. Perhaps it was originally about Harris in the Pitt DLC? In my opinion; it is safe to remove this entire discussion. PS3demon 23:46, October 11, 2009 (UTC)

OASIS[]

The people at Oasis can maybe be enslaved. Can someone please check it out.

Who Can I Mez?[]

Other than the people listed in the article, how many other people are susceptible to being slaved by the mesmetron? Are there any common links? I had a hunch that named characters were the reason it was failing, but even generic "residents" didn'y mez properly. Are we going to actually be able to work this out with an SDK? --DrColossus 20:10, 10 November 2008 (UTC)

I'll start listing the npcs that can be mesmerized in this post and edit it as I find new ones. In general, the mesmetron works on named NPCs that are not involved in quests and do not sell anything. Note that there is a chance the mesmetron will malfunction and cause these people to become hostile:
Rivet City: Trinnie, Angela Staley, Flak, Henry Young, Diego, Christie Young, Mr. Lopez, Tammy Hargrave, Paulie Cantelli, Mei Wong, Brock
Megaton: all Megaton settlers, mercenary in Craterside Supply
--Oktoberfest 04:18, 18 November 2008 (UTC)

Tenpenny guards, regulators (I have not been able to mez a talon mec, however), and raiders can be enslaved. I don't know if anyone else has noticed this, but I have had problems with trying to enslave people who we sitting (they always tend to go beserk/flee, even after mutliple reloads).

Grandma Sparkle at Wilhelm Wharf can be mezzed and enslaved.

The Mesmetron has a higher chance to mezz females, with death being the least likely result and it appears that all Human Enemies can be mezzed.

Enclave soldiers and Brotherhood of Steel paladins can be mezzed.

Actually,I decided to experiment with it last night in Big Town. It turns out there must be a random chance of it working, as I shot Flash and he went berserk. I reloaded and shot himm a second time and he was mezzed. I reloaded a final time and shot him and he went berserk againn and we killed all of Big Town before I shot himm a good six times in VACS and he was mezzed while hostile. Upon further tinkering, this seems to work with practically every NPC (apart from quest and essential ones). I Also found that shots to the head and sneak attacks factored into the chances of a successful mezzing attemps. The amount of shots it took to mezz the guard sat on the outskirts of Big Town (17 to be exact) support the theory that well armored foes are less susceptable to the Mesmatron. Now to tinker with it some more. No tilde character on this useless public computer, so it's Moonsaves at 9:50AM 18/11/08

Playing around with the mezzer, I actually managed to enslave pretty much anyone in Big Town except Dusty and Bittercup (I had already enslaved Red after escorting her out of the Germantown station and I hadn't saved Shorty from the mutants. Also, I tried enslaving Sticky before escorting him to Big Town, which didn't work, but don't know if he's susceptible once he gets there). Zoinker 21:34, 28 November 2008 (UTC)

Does the energy weapon skill level affect the success rate of the mesmetron?[]

Just wondering

Don't think so, percentages seem preset.

Ammo[]

  • Added reference to its ammo, Mesmetron Power Cell. Orme 13:30, 8 December 2008 (UTC)

Yes it does affect it's usage, i read it in the loading menu :)

Deathmatch Fun[]

I found something quite interesting and fun to do with the Mesmetron.

If you try and mezz Doctor Li, she will either A)fall over and it will say she is unconscious, or the more interesting thing B) she will start to fight with anyone who is near her. I have had a "Fight Night" with Garza vs Li, Kaplinski vs Li, and Holt vs Li, most times they will fight for a few minutes, then the challenger will run away and Li will chase after them. Also, its a good item to use when you want to have a deathmatch in Rivet City Marketplace. I found out Bannon is one tough mother.

Enjoy your mesmetronic fun :)

Koizo 15:43, 14 December 2008 (UTC)

This is because since Dr. Li is a quest related NPC, she cannot be enslaved. And since she is essential, she cannot be killed (she fell unconscious because she was supposed to have the "cranial eruption"). But anyway I prefer stronger enemies to mez for a deathmatch. When I played Oblivion, the Frezy spells used to be my favorite and I would turn an entire town mad and start massive riots. The mesmetron allows a similar kind of fun. --Clean Up 21:31, 23 February 2009 (UTC)

Trivia[]

The trivia section is starting to rival the size of the entire article. This is ridiculous, especially since many of the mentioned (that FO3 is implied to reference) are in fact references to other uses IN THE SAME LIST. Yes, I know some of us here are young, but get a grip, just because it's the first time you saw something, in something new, doesn't meant it wasn't done before.

Heck, I'm pretty dang sure that Strongbad is making a reference (and making fun of, as per normal SB shenanigans) to other things, and certainly shouldn't be implied to be an originator. --DarkJeff 21:33, 9 December 2008 (UTC)

Since the Mesmetron is NOT an exploding slave collar, I will be removing all the references to one. The Mesmetron doesn't even cause the slave collar to explode. It even says that the side-effect is "spontaneous cranial eruption", not "exploding slave collar". EDIT: Some of this information was even duplicated from the Slave Collar page. --MadDawg2552 16:42, 3 January 2009 (UTC)

Ghouls?[]

I have noticed that whenever I attempt to enslave Gob, all he does is fall down (goes ragdoll). This happens completely regardless of whether it's a sneak attack, headshot etc. He soon gets back up and becomes hostile. Has anyone else encountered this?

Making People wear Power Armor[]

Yea, I'm trying to turn everyone in Big Town wear Power Armor. I've already succeeded at making all the security guards in Tenpenny Tower wear it, and maybe I'll do it to Rivet City (provided I don't run out of ammo) but it seems that I can't mez Timebomb or Pappy without them becoming hostile or blowing up. Can someone help me? Should I aim at them a certain way?

You could just reverse-pickpocket power armor on them Kalalokki 11:10, 20 July 2009 (UTC)

Problem Enslaving Flak[]

No matter where I decide to enslave Flak, he always becomes hostile. I have tried shooting the Mesmetron at different body parts in different places in Rivet City, with 100 Stealth and Stealth Boy in use, but every single time, he turns to me and starts shooting. Any help?

Armed NPCs are harder to enslave. Try pick-pocketing all his weapons from him, and try again when he is not sitting down or laying down.

New Mesmetron[]

Is it possible to get a new mesmetron after you've sold it? I've sold mine and I forget who I sold it to and I killed everyone in Paradise Falls.

No not without console commands

Press ~ and type: Player.additem 00004339 1 100

And: Player.additem 0006A80D 50

The first on is the Mesmetron, the second is the ammo.

On the code list for weapons, it says Mesmeron and Mesmetron. The Mesmetron however, will appear inviseble and is a deadly weapon, not a Mesmetron.

use the Mesmeron code. For the ammo you can use any amount you want, don't know if it has a limit though.

Have ltos of mesmetronic fun mate :p (Milan)

Exploit[]

First, mez and collar a raider. Next remove the collar. From now on, nothing you do to the raider will make him angry at you. You can punch him to death, pickpocket whatever. Even after killing and resurrecting several times in a row the raider still won't agro on you. So you can come back anytime in the future for free loot and exp on any mezzable raider that respawns. You lose 100 karma for each person you collar. You do not gain karma when you let them go, making this a very easy way to become evil. --Ripvanwinkle111 15:19, 3 July 2009 (UTC)

Respawn After Mezz[]

In the article it says respawnable enemies like raiders do not respawn in their area if that npc is successfully made a slave. is this true?--67.171.46.168 10:09, 4 July 2009 (UTC)

The definition of "successfully made a slave" means they ran all the way to Paradise Falls and are in the jail cell. Since they aren't dead, they won't respawn where you found them.

However, if you remove the collar before they run off this turns them friendly. You can then kill the raider, come back a week later, and the same raider will have respawned and still be friendly. You can kill and loot the raider again. --Ripvanwinkle111 00:57, 7 July 2009 (UTC)

I have been enslaving raiders for a while now and have found that enslaved raiders die upon entering the slave house. Also, if you return a few days later and enter the slave house you will find them respawned. They then walk or run out out of the slave complex unmolested by the slavers. They are friendly to the main character. They then try and make it back to their original spawning point. 69.152.64.70 02:19, December 25, 2009 (UTC)

Making Fallout Psycho Free[]

I went through some of the raider popultated area's (Evergreen mills, springvale academy, ect.), if you mezz the raiders, put a collar on them, immediatly take it off, and go hidden, they will be friendly. I did this to whole populations of Raiders, and enemy raiders DONT respawn. Raiders also dont attack other friendly NPCs(only ones friendly to you). This makes them like normal Wastelanders(why this is useful is u wont have to worry about fighting raiders, and most raider areas have beds u can sleep in, which pretty much adds safe-houses and eliminates danger zones), ect. This might actually be a good tactic, it works well for me. Has anyone else every tried that?

However, (may want to be confirmed) I can never mezz people outside the capital wasteland (people in the pitt, point lookout) because they are not near paridise falls. So if u try to mezz smugglers and locals from point lookoiut, or slaves from the pitt, they will get angry and kill everybody, or their head will explode.

1. I did in the Bethesda ruins.

2. You can't mezz people outside of the CW. Lord Spoonfield III 11:06, 5 July 2009 (UTC)

1. Not all raiders at Evergreen mills respawn for me, only three respawn. In fact, with the 1.5 patch, the raiders at Super-Duper Mart no longer respawn for me. I have 13 current locations 'pacified', for 72 raiders that respawn and ignore me killing them. --Ripvanwinkle111 00:59, 7 July 2009 (UTC)

mesmetron[]

can u get another mesmetron from anywhere else as i threw mine away and i cant remember where ive been searching for months and am stuck.freddi

No. Unless you are on a computer, and you can use console commands, you just threw away one of the most precious items in the entire game.

Ammo?[]

Is there any way to get ammo apart from buying it from Grouse?

Moved from article[]

  • Combat tips for using the Mesmetron against generic hostile human enemies are mentioned below:
    • The enemies one can use the Mesmetron on are all generic ("healthy") human enemies, ranging from Raiders to Enclave Soldiers, although it is likely that the likelihood for the different effects are altered to make the effects less powerful.
    • For example, from several trials on Enclave and Enclave Hellfire soldiers, it seems that the likelihood of an "exploding head" instant-kill is still around 20%; the chance of a "stun mezz" that allows conversation is around 20% also; and the remaining 60% is mainly a "does nothing" result, with possibility of a "frenzy" although it is difficult to tell. With a stun mezz, it is possible to enslave the enemy (which *will* make all other enemies attack and kill him), or to remove their armor/weapons and then let them go free and naked using the bottom conversation option. The latter will allow you to kill the enemy easily and incurs NO Karma loss.
    • It is also possible, but insufficiently tested, that there is an increase in the likelihood of stunning with a surprise attack or against weaker enemies - based on some surprise attacks on Raiders, it seems that the chance of a stun (allowing conversation) increases to nearly 50%.
    • Using V.A.T.S. is advised with this weapon to save on ammunition and due to the hard-to-assess maximum range of its "wave" projectile.

While its main purpose is for enslaving, this weapon can also serve in a combat role based on its various possible effects on a human enemy, as mentioned in more detail in the Notes section. The Mesmestron may be considered either as a "last-ditch" weapon or as an interesting way to open combat against especially tough enemies such as the Enclave Hellfire Trooper, or (some) hostile unique NPCs. The price of 20 caps per round may be prohibitive for this purpose, though.--Kingclyde 02:53, 1 August 2009 (UTC)

Can Casdin be mezzed?[]

Hey I was just wondering if Casdin could be mezzed for access to his inventory without killing him.Victoriesx42 02:08, 12 August 2009 (UTC)

Console Mezzing[]

Is it possible to put a Mez-able NPC in a mesmerized state through a console command (that is to say, without going through the gamble of mezzing regularly)? I've been wondering this and it'd be a lot more convenient if I could just pop up the console and instantly mez a hostile, like an Enclave Soldier.

--117649AnnihilativeRepentance 21:14, 13 August 2009 (UTC)

I found a spell called Mesmetron Migraine (code is 1E004), but it doesn't seem to do anything. Any help? --117649AnnihilativeRepentance 13:42, 19 August 2009 (UTC)

Meddling with inventory post-collar causes them to die[]

When I first got the mesmetron I was quite angry that my slaves would always not make it. I've since found out why this happens (For me, PC 1.7, at least).

If I mess with an NPC's inventory after putting on the slave collar, even if I just take a bullet and put it back, they always die before making it to Paradise Falls. If I take all their stuff, save for any piece of armor (even sexy sleepwear) before putting the slave collar on them, they always make it without fail.

Removing Collar[]

If I remove the collar, will I get the collar back or will I need a new one? --FlameWolf 18:50, September 5, 2009 (UTC)

New one. Captain TattyBoJangles Care to talk? 18:52, September 5, 2009 (UTC)

No you dolt, David, you get the same one back. Spoon 18:55, September 5, 2009 (UTC)

Friendly respawn work on Enclave Troops?[]

If you mezz then collar and then release an Enclave soldier, does he spawn friendly like raiders do???

For some Enclave camps and patrols yes. But not all.--Ripvanwinkle111 00:06, September 15, 2009 (UTC)

Exact List Of People[]

I did a little investigation, basically because I wanted to Mezz Protector Casdin to get everything I have him fully repaired (a Laser Rifle fully repaired has a value of 999), so I went in the GECK and searched for the Mesmetron (WeapMesmetron). Then I searched for the effect it showed to have, and that effect showed to be affected by a script. There I found that there are 4 factions regarding the Mezzer: MS13AlwaysMez (only Flak, Red, Arkansas and Susan Lancaster are in that one), MS13Slaves.Mezzed (the script named it but I couldn't find it in the GECK so I assume it was eliminated), the MS13CantMez (this faction had no members) and the MS13CanMez (in this faction where lots of members, I won't write all fo them but you can check it in the GECK. Basically there where everyone from Megaton, Big Town, Outcasts, Brotherhoods, Slavers, Talons, Regulators, Enclave Soldiers, Raiders, Scavengers and Traders such as Doc Hoff, etc.). But I didn't see Protector Casdin in any faction, and later I found that the script said that only people who where in the MS13AlwaysMez or MS13CanMez factions were Mezzable, any other character or NPC wasn't. So unluckily, this leads us to the conclusion that Casdin can't be mezzed. BUT I will try to do a mod that makes everyone 100% mezzable, but I don't have much free time on my hands and my pc is slower than shit (I play FO3 on my PS3), so if anyone would like to do the mod, it'd be awesome. All that needs to be done is to add every actor (character) to the MS13AlwayseMez faction and erase the members from the MS13CanMez faction (don't erase the faction, just in case it may cause problems with the script). Hope to have helped :D

That mod already exists, goto fallout3nexus and search for mesmetron.--Ripvanwinkle111 00:07, September 15, 2009 (UTC)

Edited first section[]

I rewrote the bit about killing Grouse to get the Mesmetron, since it implied that you can't enslave anyone if he is dead. As long as you have already obtained a Slave Collar, you can enslave NPCs whether Grouse is alive or dead, but if he is dead they will just run to Paradise Falls, enter a slave pen and disappear, and you won't get paid. Khim 13:33, October 29, 2009 (UTC)

Do all named NPCs stay in the prison in paradise falls?[]

After strictly business all of the NPCs i enslaved could be freed, does that work for any other named or even non named NPCs?

Biograpy Suggestion[]

I've had an idea, perhaps we can add a "Mezzable" section to each Character Biography; one that would basically just read, "Mezzable: Yes" or "Mezzable: No." It would help with alot of confusion, plus we could delete the "So-and-So CAN or CAN NOT be Mezzed" line of the Notes section.

All Character Bios have enslaveable followed by a tick or a cross, if they cant be enslaved then they cant be messed, if they can then they can be messed. JASPER42

Unconfirmed bugs[]

Removed from article, please do not add until confirmed from more than two editors

  • It is possible that when trying to enslave any of the bigtowners, if you save just before mezzing them, they should die as a result when you reload the game for no reason. saving a new file and reloading the old file can fix this (360)

Chances[]

Where did the figures on this page that state a 50/30/20 chance come from, because I'm having some serious doubts about these figures based on experience? StarfishCostume

Bug[]

Just finished mezzing all the raiders at the Super Duper Mart, however, I had to leave one to paradise falls as I had a problem where it would freeze right after I took off the collar, has anybody else had any problems with over-mezzing? StarfishCostume 21:12, March 29, 2010 (UTC)
