The best suggestion is that he was leading the squad into battle against most of the Brotherhood's wishes. And whether or not he too old to fight, or that his armor would be too heavy for him, that does not matter. He was stated to be an "accomplished soldier", and the T-51b power armor enables its wearer's strength to be "amplified" many times over, so he would in theory probably be psychically fit for fighting. Or maybe the dates were recorded wrong, who knows. The only thing we know for sure is that Maxson II was a teenager by the time of the Great War and the Brotherhood's Exodus. - It does appear to be so. This is probably a function of MCA's forgetting to take dates into account. Or maybe Maxson II was intended to be just that old, kept in tip-top shape by advanced medical technologies, implants, and his power armor. It seems deliberate now that I cross-reference it with John Maxson, who was born after the apocalypse (2097) and that's stated independently in the official biography in the Fallout Strategies & Secrets. So either this is a long running error in print or the Maxsons have ridiculous longevity. Given that some people live to well beyond 110 years, MAxson II can also be the black swan. You are definitely right Tagaziel. All of those ideas could be completely correct (the part about him being "kept in tip-top shape" from various technological things like implants, power armor and other advanced tech would definitely make sense as the Brotherhood has these things by the hundreds, but the longevity thing also makes sense as his father, Roger Maxson, lived long enough to rule the Brotherhood for nearly 50 years). It isn't like it really matters, and I only noticed this because I'm a die-hard Fallout fan. When I did realize his age at the time of the Vipers' attack, I went right to the talk page on the article to see if anyone else noticed, and yes! Sure enough, someone did. Oh well, we will just have to cope with his age. I'd like to think he was a really old badass soldier that loved battle, but we won't know for sure, as there is so little known information about Maxson II that we can never be sure what his proper place (and possibly age) was in Fallout cannon (at least, not right now).
