New Vegas[]

Does the penalty (-60%) and bonus (Better Crits, +50%) work to cancel each other out for -10%, or instead is the base amount reduced by 60% and the new total given +50% by better criticals? Mictlantecuhtli 22:19, November 25, 2010 (UTC)

The second, the base critical damage is reduced by 60%, while the new total is given the +50% bonus.

So the Ballistic fist deals 80dmg and 80 critical damage. With heavy handed it will deal 96dmg and 32 crit dmg. Heavy handed is better overall as the damage bonus is applied to every hit. BUT if you take heavy handed The Ballistic fist with heavy handed and the perk deals nearly 200dmg. So Heavy Handed>Better Criticals>(Better Criticals+Heavy Handed)

How does this work with the new perk "Elijah's Ramblings" from the Dead Money DLC? Elijah's Ramblings is supposed to increase your Melee Critical Hit Damage by 150%, and if it works like Better Criticals does, I did some calculations and it would seem that Heavy Handed is not worth it in the long run if you get both Better Criticals and Elijah's Rablings, and that a pure melee character would be stronger focusing on critical hits because of this. 75.102.128.163 01:10, February 23, 2011 (UTC)e

Heavy Handed and throwing weapons[]

I know the Heavy Handed trait affects throwing-spears, but does it affect throwing-hatchets and knives? The wiki entries for those weapons do not display an attack bonus for the trait. Also, if they lack the regular damage bonus, do they also lack the critical damage penalty or does it keep the crit hit penalty?
