This quest doesn't work for me. I found Mercier and read the note. But Milo won't talk to me, so my only option there is to shoot him. And finally Ledouxs gang won't show up at the Red Rocket Tricycle Factory. Any idea how to fix this quest? A console command would do it also. I already finished The Nuka-Cola Challenge, if this helps. --87.170.52.188 14:39, 15 November 2008 (UTC)

Uhm you did obtain the formula from the safe? MiquelXY 17:00, 15 November 2008 (UTC)
Yes, of course. But like I said, the quest didn't seem to start from the beginning, as I wasn't able to talk to Milo. --87.170.52.188 17:44, 15 November 2008 (UTC)
Was Milo red or green when you wanted to talk to him? It is possible that you hit him unintentionaly, turning him hostile. I think that the best course of action will be cheating with the console codes, loading a point (if it is possible without restarting from the beginning) were you didnt find the note yet, or just drop the quest as it doesnt give you an achievement on Live. But you will miss Ledoux's Hockey Mask if that was your ultimate goal... MiquelXY 23:42, 15 November 2008 (UTC)
Yeah, that mask was my goal. And no, I didn't hit him. He was still green. I also tried to load some point before I picked up the note, then tried it again, but nothing happened. I guess it's not possible to trigger certain events via the console?--87.170.52.188 01:44, 16 November 2008 (UTC)
The only way is then to pop up the console, enter player.additem X Y Z, where X=item code Y=number of items you want and Z=condition. If you want one with full condition it is player.additem 0007401c 1 100
Odd, have the same bug - robot wont talk to me, and after getting the formula the gang wont spawn. --SkyHi 05:34, 17 November 2008 (UTC)
At least I'm not alone in this one. Out of curiosity: Did you finish "The Nuka-Cola Challenge" before starting this quest? --emkay 06:20, 18 November 2008 (UTC)
I personally did not, but I had no problems with the quest. MiquelXY 10:31, 18 November 2008 (UTC)
Had this same problem. I finished the Nuka-Cola Challenge, then headed off to the factory. Looted the note from Mercier just fine. Milo greeted me with "Hello madam!" automatically, and then refused to engaged me in any further conversation. I killed him, took the key, got the formula, and headed off to the Red Rocket factory, but Leodoux won't spawn. I'm on PS3. 24.247.156.217 14:25, 10 July 2009 (UTC)

You don't have to complete the quest BEFORE you complete the Nuka-Cola Challenge (I completed it afterwards just fine) but maybe you have to at least obtain the formula before that. Anyway, I think that killing the robot works because you can loot the key to the safe that contains the formula from him.Chagrian 01:44, 11 December 2008 (UTC)
I got the note from the guy's corpse, but failed to get a quest entry for the formula. At the time i was perplexed since it seemed like a blatant quest hook that just dead-ended. Also the robot (which I had to kill as it became hostile after some conversation) didn't have the key (Presumably the key only exists when the quest is active) NCC quest was in active when I entered the factory but not completed. Any thoughts? I can live without the mask but it's annoying that the quest activation seems inconsistent. -TheYeti 18:53, 11 December 2008 (UTC)
I ran into the same no-key-on-robot bug, kept loading older games until I got to one from before I even entered the building. The second time around I grenaded Mister Handy without even talking to him, key was on his body that time. Also, I don't think you need to find the note first, you can get the key, open the safe, and take the formula before finding the note and still complete the quest (xbox360). --AshRandom 20:28, 11 December 2008 (UTC)

Possible Bug[]

After obtaining the formula, I fast-traveled to Megaton to drop off my loot. While there, I dropped the formula in my desk, then ran off to meet Sudden-Death Overtime. Despite not having the formula on hand, I was still able to sell it to them for 400 caps, and then loot a second copy of the formula off of Ledoux. Has anybody else seen this? 71.87.48.116 04:50, 23 December 2008 (UTC)

This happened to me in the PC version. I found the note, and the forumla while doing the Nuka-Cola challenge, but didn't know where the Red Racer factory was. I can't recall now if I finished the Nuka-Cola challenge first or not. When I did find the Red Racer factory, Ledoux was there and paid me for the formula, (even though it was at Megaton). When I pick-pocketed him, he had the fomula on him.

Nuka Cola Challenge[]

I completed the challenge and then started this 'quest'. You do not need to have The Nuka Cola Challenge uncompleted to find his body.

Me too. I got the formula, finished "The Nuka Cola Challenge" quest and the guys at the Red Racer were there. Maybe it's because I gave my quantums to Ronald, or maybe the patch fixed it. 82.80.135.22 18:23, 23 February 2009 (UTC)
I did the same as the above, but I didn't give my Quantums to Ronald. But I later came back to the Red Racer Factory, and Goalie Ledoux was still there (but not his teammates).69.0.26.90 03:11, 24 February 2009 (UTC)
I found the factory and the recipe inside before ever finding Girdershade (and thus before getting the "Nuka-Cola Challenge" quest), and Ledoux still spawned outside of the factory. I suspect there are no real links between "Nuka-Cola Challenge" and "Just for the Taste of It", or at least they are not represented accurately on this wiki. --HunterZ 19:09, April 17, 2011 (UTC)
Looking in the GECK, the scripts handling Ledoux and the formula never check that the quest has started, only that it ended. That means Ledoux will spawn before and during the quest during but not after it's ended. I reloaded a first-time-leaving-the-vault save and went straight to the bottling factory and was able to get Ledoux's mask. --Rooker75 21:47, May 19, 2011 (UTC)
Actually, it looks like he would spawn after the quest as well, but only if you picked up the formula before ending it. --Rooker75 22:01, May 19, 2011 (UTC)

tactics moved from article[]

This quest begins inside the Nuka-Cola Plant. If you have 100% lockpicking you can breeze right through the plant; if not, you have to go through the blue glowing, radioactive basement areas.

Upstairs in the office section, near the shipping section, you should find the body of Winger Mercier, apparently killed by Radroaches and NukaLurks. When you search him, he has the Finding the Formula note. Examining it in your Pip-Boy 3000 will trigger the quest.(Note: you do not need to find Mercier to start the quest. If you get the key, get the formula , then go to the Red Racer Factory, Goalie Ledoux will still be there and will offer the reward

The note calls for Winger Mercier to find the secret Nuka-Cola Clear Recipe from the R&D Department of the Nuka-Cola Plant and return it to his partner, Goalie Ledoux, who is awaiting him at the Red Racer Factory.

Milo, shipping foreman

Milo the Shipping Foreman

The formula is actually inside a locked safe in one of the walls of the R&D Department. The R&D room is the first room on the left as you enter the Nuka-Cola Plant. (There are no signs for "R&D" department except for the word "RESEARCH" written on one of the walls.) The Formula from the safe is actually an Item (weight 1, value 150), so don't look for it in your Data Notes. There is no actual info about the formula.

The safe requires a key to open. To acquire the key, you must find the Mister Handy robot named Milo the Shipping Foreman at the lower level of the Factory Floor. You can pass a Speech challenge to convince the robot to give you the key, or if you have the Robotics Expert Perk he will give it to you automatically. Otherwise, you can look for a note by the computer in the office next to R&D (Storage and mixing vats) called "Welcome to the Nuka-Cola family", that contains ID data allowing you to pass the ID check. If all else fails, you can acquire it from him in less civilized ways.

The Red Racer Factory is only a few miles NE of the Nuka-Cola Plant. Ledoux and two members of his Ice-Gang team will be waiting for you in front of the factory entrance. The factory itself has little to do with this quest; you don't have to enter it - just show up outside with the formula and Ledoux will appear.

Ledoux offers 250 caps for the formula, or you can try to convince him to give you 400 by passing a Speech challenge. Ledoux is accompanied by Winger Gervais and Centre Dubois, forming Sudden-Death Overtime, the last of the icegangs.

Goalie Ledoux wears a unique mask named Ledoux's Hockey Mask that gives the wearer +25 Action Points, has a damage resistance of 4, and appears to be invulnerable. This is comparable to an extra Action Boy perk and is possibly the best piece of headwear in the game, especially since it never degrades. You can also recover the formula from his body. There is no Karma penalty for murdering Ledoux and his group.

Ledoux is armed with a Scoped .44 Magnum, while his friends have an Assault Rifle and a Chinese Assault Rifle.

After you turn in the Nuka-Cola Clear Formula you can pickpocket Goalie for it back, but with a Karma penalty. The formula has no other known use, but has a value of 150 caps.

You can also wait for the team to get close to the nearby car. Once they are within explosion range, shoot the car until it blows up. Then you can pick up the Formula.

It is possible to acquire two copies of the formula. When you obtain the formula from the Nuka-Cola plant, put it in your house or follower's inventory before going to the Red Racer Factory. When you do go to the Red racer factory, Ledoux will still act as if you were carrying it. You don't have to have it on you - you just have to have found it. You can continue the dialog as normal for the reward. Once his friends leave, you can kill him for Ledoux's Mask and a second copy of the formula.

You can also follow Ledoux's friends to the Nuka-Cola factory. If you kill or pickpocket them they have assault rifles and about 50 5.56mm rounds.

(Note: you do not need to find Mercier to start the quest. If you get the key, get the formula, then go to the Red Racer Factory, Goalie Ledoux will still be there to offer the reward.)

??!!![]

so basicly when i found the dead guy and took the note, so when i read it... nothing happens! you read the note and get the quest right? well, it didnt work 4 me -_-

It's an unmarked quest. You don't get a notification. Spoon 20:13, 29 August 2009 (UTC)

My problem[]

What I did was that I didn't do the Nuka-Cola Challenge quest. I talked to what's-her-face in Girdershade, told her I'd do it, then I blew her face open (also wasn't able to find the guy in Girdershade; the one who supposedly wants to bone here - I've waited, exited/entered his house - he never showed). I went and did everything required in the Nuka Cola plant (killed Milo as soon as I saw him), then happily made my way to the Red Racer factory. No SDO! No Ledoux! And - worst of all - no mask to be had!....What's a boy to do? How can I make Ledoux show up? I'm playing on 360, For your information... 72.145.222.241 05:08, September 24, 2009 (UTC)

After you got the key from Milo, Shipping Foreman, did you get the Nuka-Cola Clear Formula from the safe on the first floor in the entryway? Ledoux and his gang won't show up unless you have the formula in your inventory. Ronald Laren in Girdershade may have disappeared if you killed the Sierra Petrovita before talking to him outside her house after first accepting the quest. Also, he is non-essential meaning he could have been killed by a Deathclaw or something since he walks around outside a lot. ArmeniusLOD 06:42, September 24, 2009 (UTC)

VATS and Ledux[]

well... i did everything right i think, i got the formula to him, dropped it right before he tried to take it.... got 250 caps (failed the 68% speech check, wth). his gang ran off left him behind... decided that now was a good time to show them the saftey in numbers trick and started V.A.T.S. waited 1 sec.... Xbox froze up, couldnt even open the guide to get out... this only my bug? or has there been anyone else that unlucky?--Had24get 18:48, January 10, 2010 (UTC)
