The Drone Control Device is used to make one drone of either type (Support Drone or Guardian Drone) follow your character until destroyed.

There is an exploit to the DCD. (Drone Control Device) When there are two Drones of any type next to eachother, select the first drone pod and choose activate. Then as the first drone pod's shield is raising, select the second drone pod and choose activate. I do not know if the second drone will follow, but it will seek out any enemies in the area.64.74.213.98 07:57, 9 August 2009 (UTC)JXBM
- Just tested this exploit, can confirm that it both works and that both robots will follow you. Also, the room you walk out into just after using the terminal to blow a hole in the assembly line has a spot where three pods are close enough together to, if you time it right, get three robot followers, making the total followers for this room four! 98.169.99.19 04:14, 26 August 2009 (UTC)
- You can get up to four or five following you (two guardians and two support, or one guardian and four support) by running quickly between the pods. Also, any drone you have controlled when you finally leave the ship will remain friendly, but no longer follow you if you return to the ship (regardless of whether or not you have the Drone Control Device). I have a couple of guardian and support drones on permanent patrol on the bridge; they even occasionally wander through the teleportation matrix to the engineering core, only to return a few moments later.
Outside the Mothership?[]
My drone didn't follow when i left the Mothership :( I wanted it to come back to the wasteland with me!! Is that possible??
Cannot activate another pod bug[]
So I killed the alien and took the DCD off his corpse. Immediately afterwards, all the drones in the pods around the room activated and turned hostile. Now, whenever I try to use the Device, I get the message "You cannot activate another pod while the drone control device is active", despite the fact I have not yet activated a pod. Anyone else encountered a similar problem? PS3 version, for reference. Zakrael 17:36, November 13, 2009 (UTC)
- It's possible that the alien who had the device before you obtained it had an active drone. When that drone dies, you can activate another. If you leave the level with the drone still active and can't go back to that level for whatever reason, the device is useless since you can never activate another.
