Talius was one of the scouts sent out from Vault 13 by Overseer Jacoren to find a water chip.[1] He was provided with a shotgun and some 12 gauge shells, and managed to track down the chip to Necropolis. However, Talius ultimately failed in his quest. Talius battled the super mutants at the watershed, however despite help from Set, and killing most of them.[2] He was captured by super mutants in Necropolis after a skirmish with the garrison there. Knocked out by the Nightkin, he was taken for dipping to the Mariposa Military Base.[3]
He was taken to the Lieutenant and mutated, prior to which he learned that the mutants were searching for "pure humans", and that the Lieutenant was working for someone else.[4] He was dipped, but before his mutation could take hold, he was rescued under unknown circumstances by the Followers.[5] His transformation was unique and he became a special type of mutant, similar to Harold. He joined the Followers out of gratitude, becoming a well educated, highly intelligent member of the organization.
Despite the adversity that comes with being a mutant, he imparts his wisdom and knowledge with those whom seek it, having once been of little intellect, he learned much from the Followers, becoming much more intelligent than most wastelanders.[6] Although he is not a ghoul, he definitely looks like one, and despite his mutation and disfigurement, he is recognize to those who knew him before his mutation.[7] He carries a very benevolent disposition and will cease conversation with anyone whom makes sarcastic slights against him.[8][9]
Talius will give the Vault Dweller a flamer and 20 flamer fuel if he mentions fighting the mutants for Talius.[10]
Low intelligence characters (3 or less) will receive three Mentats. While highly intelligent characters (6 or more) will incite a above average intelligence dialogue path.[5]
