A favorite of the gangster-like Triggermen, the Submachine Gun is a rapid-fire automatic weapon with a high ammo capacity.

Background[]
A venerable relic, the .45 Auto submachine gun is a classic design that rivals the .45 Auto pistol in age. Originally designed for trench warfare of World War I, this weapon's craftsmanship and firepower made it a popular choice for Prohibition-era gangsters, policemen, and U.S. military units. It is a conventional open bolt, magazine fed design. While heavy for its size, the metal and wood used in its manufacture make it extremely durable. Many units were kept in storage by the United States Army and National Guard, eventually finding their way into the hands of various groups across the wasteland after these armories and ammo dumps were looted. The most notable groups include the White Legs, who adopted them as Storm Drums and use them extensively in their raids, and the Triggermen of the Commonwealth.
Characteristics[]
This weapon is let down by its poor damage per bullet, which is the same as .38 rounds fired by a pipe gun, despite the fact that it uses .45 rounds. The drum can hold more than that of a pipe gun, but the rate of fire remains the same. As it is, using this weapon will waste a lot of .45 ammo. A pipe gun is a viable alternative in order to save .45 rounds for the combat rifle.
Although the weapon is technically coded to have the same range as short-barreled rifles and has a reasonable 13 points of damage per bullet, once mods apply these are reduced and produce a marginally shorter range and roughly 33% lower damage than the base weapon.
Crafting[]
With the Contraptions Workshop add-on, submachine guns can be manufactured using a weapon forge.

Variants[]
- Spray n' Pray is sold by a wandering merchant by the name of Cricket. She has been known to set up shop in Bunker Hill, and can occasionally be found outside of Vault 81, Warwick Homestead or Diamond City and throughout the Commonwealth. While extremely rare, one can also find it on random vendors.
Locations[]

Behind the scenes[]
In both appearance and functionality, this weapon is based on the Thompson submachine gun, often nicknamed the "Tommy Gun". "Submachine gun" is a generic term that could apply equally to many weapons in the game.
