Slayer (skill)
Effects+5% chance for Critical Chance

The Slayer walks the earth! In hand-to-hand combat all of your hits are upgraded to critical hits, causing destruction and mayhem.

Fallout 2 description

Slayer is a perk in Fallout, Fallout 2, Fallout Tactics, Fallout: New Vegas, J.E. Sawyer's Fallout Role-Playing Game, Lionheart, and a skill in Fallout: Brotherhood of Steel.


Each level of this skill increases Critical Chance by +5% (up to a maximum +25%) when attacking a target.

  1. Tim Cain GDC Talk, @24:46–25:27: "I was worried that not only would we lose players when we had that, but RPG's tend to sit on the shelf for years and I was afraid we would look dated. So I made a rule, and the rule for that was: if you put in a joke or a cultural reference, if the player didn't get it, they shouldn't even know that that joke or cultural reference was being made, and this image (it's one of the perks you get for Unarmed), if you hit someone, you automatically becomes a critical hit; it's called the Slayer, and it makes perfect sense to someone just is saying 'Hey, that's a good name for someone who always gets critical hits. It's actually in that way because Chris Taylor was a huge fan of Buffy the Vampire Slayer' and wanted at least one perk in there with the name 'Slayer'."
