Fallout: New Vegas locations project
Before belonging to the Van Graff family, the Silver Rush was the casino which rivaled the Atomic Wrangler in Freeside. For unknown reasons, the Silver Rush attracted the ire of the Van Graffs who killed its former occupants and then set up shop. When the Kings showed up to protest, the Van Graffs reduced several of their members to goo and the two have left each other ever since. Once opened, the Silver Rush headed by Frieda Van Graff for awhile, but Frieda soon left the Silver Rush to pursue personal interests. After Frieda's departure, Gloria Van Graff and Jean-Baptiste Cutting were assigned to heading the Silver Rush. Now that the Silver Rush is no longer a casino, and instead an energy weapons market, its proximity to the Atomic Wrangler attracts customers.
As one would expect, the Silver Rush is not lacking in security; those caught attempting to steal are used as a cheaper alternative to target dummies. Energy weapons are not the first thing in mind when thinking about Freeside, so one might think business would suffer; however, Gloria Van Graff boasts that because the Van Graffs do not sell cheap merchandise, their customers do not care where they have to go to purchase from them.

This building serves as the headquarters of the Van Graff family's operations and as a hub of energy weapon supply in the Mojave Wasteland. The main room is what remains of the gutted Silver Rush casino. Military barricades restrict movement of customers, to the advantage of security. Down a short hallway in the back of the accessible part of the store is a bathroom. The cashier's room is barricaded and locked. Past the locked door there are some safes, a locked computer, and a stairway to the living quarters.
The upper floor of the building (directly behind the sign) can be accessed from the second floor of the building on its right. The Courier may hop up the debris piles (companions can sometimes follow) to reach a semi-secret bedroom, complete with mattress and a small dining table that overlooks the street below.
- All weapons and ammunition in the store can be stolen without karma loss, but the guards will turn hostile if the player is caught.
- Be warned that even if you successfully steal something, bumping into one of the patrolling guards can result in you being caught.
- Before entering the Silver Rush, the guard outside will take all the player's weapons. The weapons will be returned when the player leaves the Silver Rush. After the player completes the first part of the Birds of a Feather quest, the guards will stop taking the player's weapons on entry.
- It is not required that you complete the first part of Birds of a Feather in order to stop your weapons from being taken from you upon entry to the Silver Rush. Simply accepting the quest from Gloria will allow you to keep all of your weapons upon entry.
Behind the scenes
- The Silver Rush's sign appears to be based on that of the Golden Nugget, a real life Fremont Street Casino.
- Lots of content was cut from the Silver Rush:
Originally the Van Graff intro sequence in the Silver Rush was longer. The scene would start without the guy kneeling on the floor, and instead Gloria would tell Jean Baptiste to go and get him (he is locked in the bathroom, which explains that odd area), to the bewilderment of the customer. It would then be explained who he was - a former employee who was romantically involved with Gloria and cheated on her. He is then shot to show the customer not to mess with the Van Graffs. This was cut presumably due to a complete lack of bound hand animations.
If restored, the "volunteer" will walk normally to his execution spot, where the bonds would magically appear on his hands as he sits down and then disappear again (bond graphics are broken in the game generally, no one who is tied up is actually tied up at all if you look!). As this whole part of the sequence was cut, a hasty edit job removed other parts that would now not make sense, including the final gag where Jean Baptiste congratulates Gloria on her great story about sleeping with the now dead guy (who he thought just stole some stuff from them). He then realizes she wasn't joking and is appalled! There's also another part of this that was cut early. Originally the "volunteer" would stop at the stairs and be pushed down them onto his face by Jean Baptiste. There is a pusher object to achieve this and a trigger, but it is disabled and presumably cut very early on. Its script notes mention it will have to be spruced up on "polish week", but it seems it was just abandoned.
There's a further unfinished part of the above scene. There's a line in VFSVanGraffLaughter for all the thugs in the Silver Rush to laugh at the events that just happened. However, no voice files were ever recorded.
It may have been possible to get into the top of the Silver rush from outside at some point, as there are a number of idle furniture items in there that are impossible to see from the street - someone must have put them there on purpose. - If you steal all the weapons on the table (or only weapons that interest you) and reload the auto-save gained from entering the Silver Rush the weapons you stole from before will be in full condition after the save loads.
- Sometimes stolen energy weapons will stack, as in they won't be visible in your inventory until you drop an energy weapon of the same type (for example it will appear that you only have one laser rifle but when you drop it there is still another in your inventory that was hidden previously). Though these weapons are hidden they still add to your carry weight; so your carry weight is higher than it should be when looking at your apparent inventory which is how the bug was discovered.
- Sometimes the inventory of Gloria never updates according to character level, selling only the same low-level weapons.
- After killing the Van Graffs and leaving without taking the weapons, upon re-entering the Silver Rush, some of the weapons will fall through the floor and on a platform below. You will still be able to pick them up, but are harder to find.
- After exiting the Silver Rush, saving, and quitting, the auto-save and normal save may become bugged and result in endless loading screens upon re-loading either save.
- Heartache by the Number without killing the Van Graffs, if you quickly target a thug and kill him in V.A.T.S mode, the mysterious stranger will be completely invisible and can be targeted with V.A.T.S mode. he will be there forever afterwards. If you damage him enough, he will turn hostile, and kill you in one shot. With the Mysterious stranger perk, and after completing
Silver Rush appears only in Fallout: New Vegas.

- The Courier: "Tell me about the Kings."
Gloria Van Graff: "Ah, the "rulers" of Freeside. The Kings are a bunch of boys who refuse to grow up, and this is their playground. Their leader seems different, though. The few times I've dealt with him I've been impressed despite myself. Unfortunately, he rarely acts. The Kings believe that everyone in Freeside can do whatever they want, provided they can back it up with force. Which suits us just fine. When we first arrived in Freeside, the Kings protested when we kicked out the original occupant of this establishment. When we reduced several of their members to glowing puddles of goo, their objections vanished. Since then, we've left each other alone."

- The Courier: "What is there to do here?"
Gloria Van Graff: "Well, you probably noticed the Atomic Wrangler across the street. That's pretty much the place to go around here. They make it a little loud around here at night, but the business their proximity brings more than makes up for it. Other than them, you're better off skipping Freeside entirely and just heading to the Strip."

Gloria Van Graff: "First, we don't lack for security. I'm not worried about anyone breaking in here or stealing our goods. Not that we don't occasionally have attempts, but even those prove useful. Do you know how much target dummies cost? Back to my point, the second thing you'll notice is that we do not sell cheap merchandise. Everything here is second-to-none. People who buy Van Graff goods typically don't care where they have to go to get them."
