Emperor v8.8 is a supercomputer advisor used by Ken Lee to dictate the course of the Shi Empire and its policies.

Background[]

This powerful mainframe originates from the original computer that was the electronic heart of Shih-huang-ti, the nuclear ballistic submarine that was beached in San Francisco in the aftermath of the Great War, its survivors founding the Shi Empire. Hidden from prying eyes, it analyzes facts and events, plotting the optimal course for the Shi Empire to take. It stores their history, research, and projects possibilities for the future. As such, it is a far better "leader" than any fallible human being, though of course, the actual policies are still created by humans, to temper the cold logic of the machine, hidden behind a terminal's touch-screen interface.[1][2]

In order to protect the computer, the Shi have created an elaborate deception system, where the Emperor is treated publicly as an actual human being, hidden away for his safety. This also affords additional protection to the real leader of the Shi, the Emperor's advisor (Ken Lee in 2241), who is treated as simply an aide, rather than the real power. Power backed by disturbingly accurate predictions...[3]

This character is involved in quests.

Quests[]

  • Kill the Shi Emperor.: The ultimate assignment from AHS-9 is the assassination of the Emperor. Formatting the computer suffices.
  • The tanker needs fuel.: Badger can hack the Emperor mainframe to redirect fuel to the tanker (getting himself killed in the end). The player can also do it themselves, without any retaliation from the Shi once they are granted access.
  • Kill the AHS-9.: Killing the Hubologist leader is a prerequisite for meeting the Emperor face-to-terminal.

Appearances[]

The Shi Emperor appears only in Fallout 2.
