Rockopolis was a hidden subterranean kingdom until it was overrun by slavers in 2250/1.

Background[]

Some time between the Great War and the 2248, Rockopolis was settled, and established a kingdom. In the summer of that year, they gave shelter to Herbert Dashwood and Argyle. However due to Dashwood's penchant for the ladies, there was an incident with King Crag's daughter resulting in them both being exiled.

They were, by some unknown circumstance, captured by the slavers of Paradise Falls and taken to its pens. They were not alone however, accompanying them inside was a woman they did not yet know. When escaping from Paradise Falls the dynastic duo attempted to rescue this woman. When they opened the Box, they were surprised to find that she no longer inside. Upon opening the Box a slaver held them at gunpoint. Until she put a gun to his head, once he put down his weapon she pistol wiped him unconscious and escaped. During the escape she introduced herself as "Penelope Chase, fortune hunter."

On the run, having just ended a firefight, they were stopped by super mutants. Seeking to take them alive, however Argyle snuck behind them, placing live explosives inside their pockets. The explosion killed them all, however they as they collected themselves, they hear a child screaming and ran off to see the situation.

Some time later they needed to take shelter, and fast, as they were being chased by super mutants with automatic weapons. She suggested to take shelter in the hills, bringing up the topic of Rockopolis. Dashwood immediately agreed to this idea, boasting that they were good friends and knew the secret knock for entrance. Upon their arrival, she reveals herself to be the "Black Widow" leader of the slavers, holding them at gun point. Argyle however was a martial artist, quickly ripping out her heart with a move called the "Eagle Claw".

King Crag went to see what was going on. Lamenting that Dashwood was back and shocked that there was a woman without a heart at their front door. They immediately exclaimed that slavers were about to attack, Crag infuriated that the two would stupidly lead them there ordered the citizenry to destroy them. They immediately took flight into the cavern system, now to escape both the slavers and Rockopolis citizens. Only Dashwood would escape however, Argyle's corpse can be found at the only remaining entrance. The subterranean city was raised by the slavers of Paradise Falls for sale to the Pitt.[1]

Layout[]

It is located at the western edge of the Capital Wasteland, north of Girdershade and southeast of the yao guai tunnels. An easy way to locate Rockopolis is to head directly west from Smith Casey's Garage. Eventually you will encounter a ravine blocking your path. Drop into the ravine and traverse it until you find your goal. The only noticeable feature from outside Rockopolis is the multicolored plastic triangle pennants hanging from the rocks. There is no visible door: you must approach the large boulder in front of the pennants (left of the tree).

There is a random encounter spawn point directly in front of the entrance.

Exterior[]

The entrance is a boulder that can be interacted with like any other door or entrance. Facing the boulder, there is one dead tree on the right, two on the left. And as the attached pictures show, there is a length of bunting above the boulder. It is easiest to find at night, as there are lights glowing on the rock face as you approach it from the east. The entrance is very close to the center of that particular square on the map. A random encounter location is near the entrance. There is a string of multicolored plastic triangle pennants (much like those found in Little Lamplight) above the entrance boulder.

If you approach from above, you'll see a small canyon - keep looking down - you'll notice a soft glow. Jump down and you'll have the option of entering Rockopolis without ever seeing the exterior.

Interior[]

The only accessible section of Rockopolis is now a small area with some random objects. The tunnel to what was the rest of Rockopolis itself is permanently blocked by rocks. The area has the appearance of a cave dwelling, but lacks any beds. The corpse of Argyle can be found near the cave in.

Notable loot[]

  • Rollings -- We're Done is a holotape found on a desk near the ladder.
  • Bobblehead - Unarmed is located next to Argyle's body, a reference to his use of martial arts during the adventures with Herbert "Daring" Dashwood.

Related quests[]

Notes[]

  • While Rockopolis does not show up on the Pip-Boy "world map", its entrance is clearly marked on the Pip-Boy "local map".
  • The note "Rollings -- We're Done" was the foreshadowing of the second add-on of Fallout 3, The Pitt.
  • The immediate area Outside Rockopolis is a Type A random encounter location.

Appearances[]

Rockopolis appears only in Fallout 3.
