Ave, true to Caesar.

Recruit Legionaries (Latin: legionarius, pl. legionarii) are the lowest ranked members of Caesar's Legion, these Legionaries come from the various tribes recently conquered by the Legion.

Recruit legionaries are the backbone of the military of Caesars Legion. They are the lowest rank, and are often considered as expendable in the eyes of higher ranking officers such as the Legate and veteran decanus. These Legionaries come from the various tribes conquered or integrated by the Legion. They go through Legion training, which given the nature of the Legion is no simple task. These Legionaries are better trained than the average NCR trooper when it comes to sheer conditioning and hand to hand combat. The NCR, however, offers superior firearm training to its recruits. Their level of combat experience tend to vary, but all have yet to distinguish themselves to earn the rank of prime legionary. They are seen throughout the wasteland in scouting and raiding parties. They are typically led by a decanus. All of them are absolute in their devotion to Caesar and the Legion, and will gladly give their life for their cause.

Compared to NCR troopers, Recruit legionaries have slightly higher health, but inferior armor. Also, while NCR soldiers primarily use firearms, the recruit legionaries use weapons ranging from rifles to crude machetes.

Interactions with the player character

Interactions overview

This character has no special interactions.

Recruit legionaries can be found throughout the South-Eastern part of the Mojave Wasteland (Nevada) and can be seen ambushing a caravan just north of the Legion Raid Camp. They can also be found at Legion bases such as Nelson. They are rather challenging early on, but their low health, weak weapons, and low DT means they are easily slaughtered at medium to high levels.

Behind the scenes

  • The Recruit Legionary is based on the Roman Empire's Hastati, which were the youngest or newest members of the Legion and had yet to distinguish themselves in combat. The Hastati formed the front line of the Legion formation in battle.

Recruit legionaries appear only in Fallout: New Vegas.
