Recon squad Artemis was a squad for the Brotherhood of Steel, and were sent as a preliminary team to investigate the Commonwealth, to acquire technology and intel, before the Brotherhood sent in any further troops.

Recon squad Artemis, led by Paladin Brandis, were sent in to investigate the Commonwealth for technology and intel in the year 2284. Shortly after their arrival, the recon squad was attacked by an unknown party, which resulted in the deaths of four of the team's knights, including Knight Varham, in which the three survivors were forced to flee after their comrade's power armor was scuttled (while they were still in them). Finding temporary sanctuary within the nearby National Guard training yard, Paladin Brandis and Field Scribe Faris left to investigate the Revere satellite array, during which time Knight Tara Astlin was overwhelmed by the local feral ghouls, and was subsequently killed due to her isolation.

At the satellite array, Faris was wounded by the encamped super mutants, resulting in him bleeding to death. Being the final survivor, Brandis fled to recon bunker Theta, the squad's contingency plan in case of emergencies, where, over the next three years, Brandis spent all of his time either within the bunker, or scouting the immediate area (in which a behemoth has taken up residence recently).

Interactions with the player character

By the year 2287, the Sole Survivor is given the chance to be tasked by Paladin Danse, to investigate Artemis' fate. Alternatively, it is possible to discover the distress beacon(s) by accident. Tracking down the distress beacons, and listening to the deceased soldiers' holotapes, will eventually lead the Sole Survivor to recon bunker Theta, where they will be forced to confront a hostile Brandis. Depending on how the Sole Survivor handles this tenuous confrontation, Brandis can either be placated, or turned hostile. Should the confrontation be ended amicably, Brandis can then be further convinced to rejoin the Brotherhood of Steel by convincing him of his worth, even after being away from his family for so many years.

Recon squad Artemis appears only in Fallout 4.
