The recharger pistol is a weapon in Fallout: New Vegas.

Characteristics[]

The recharger pistol is the second version[1] of a self-charging weapon with effectively limitless ammunition. It's a more advanced and compact version of the recharger rifle. It is fitted with a microfusion breeder that provides it a virtually limitless power supply capped at 20 shots. Recharging time takes 1 second to recharge 1 shot, and a fully discharged recharger pistol takes 20 seconds to charge fully. Additionally, it will only recharge while equipped and does not start out charged when equipping it, resulting in having to wait for it to charge before firing.

Although shooting a red "laser" beam, the recharger pistol is unaffected by the Laser Commander perk.

Locations[]

Notes[]

  • Prior to patch 1.2.0.314, the recharger pistol did 12 points of damage on normal and critical hits, and was not able to cause enemies to disintegrate on critical kills.
  • The recharger pistol's sound effects are titled "WPNLaserDefenderFire" suggesting some previous similarity to the plasma defender.

Bugs[]

  • PCIcon pc PlayStation 3Icon ps3 Xbox 360Icon xbox360 Companions who are given this weapon will not properly utilize it, due to the fact that the weapon only generates ammunition when it is equipped by the Courier. The microfusion breeder ammunition when given to companions will behave as a "single ammunition" or a "single bullet", and once the ammunition supply is exhausted they will switch to another weapon.
  • PCIcon pc PlayStation 3Icon ps3 Xbox 360Icon xbox360 There are issues with the iron sight not aligning properly and the laser is emitted to the right, where the beam would appear when not aiming. The sights can be corrected by (roughly) aiming through the slit in the lit-up coil on right of the gun.
    • This bug was supposedly fixed in the V1.4 patch (or non-PC equivalent). The weapon will properly function in 1st person with iron sights. However, in third person, the weapon will not fire anywhere but straight ahead; there are no elevation animations.

  1. Joshua Sawyer on Formspring July 29, 2011: "Why does the Recharger Pistol do more damage than the rifle? That doesn't make sence to me.
For the same reason a real-life .44 Magnum revolver does more damage than a .22LR rifle: though they are using similar technology, the pistol is designed to handle much higher power. Consider the Recharger Rifle to be the first version of the technology, when they needed something large and bulky because they hadn't worked out all of the kinks. The Recharger Pistol is the evolution of that technology, the smart phone to the Recharger Rifle's 1990s Motorola Bag Phone."
