“
Sir, you are not authorized to enter the armory. Sir! Please don't make me shoot you, Sir!
”— Private Jones, if the Lone Wanderer tries to gain access to the Rivet City armory.Private Jones is a Mister Gutsy robot who can be found in Rivet City's bridge tower in Fallout 3.
Background[]
Seagrave Holmes salvaged this Mister Gutsy. He’s a bit confused about where he is and who all these other humans are. Harkness set him to guarding the Armory in the security tower, but he’s far from reliable.[1][2][3]
Interactions with the player character[]
Interactions overview[]
![]() |
This character has no special interactions. |
Other interactions[]
- If the Lone Wanderer has a high enough Speech skill, the Lone Wanderer can convince him that there are enemy forces on the ship's deck; he will thank the Lone Wanderer for the "assist" and hurry off. Roughly thirty seconds later, he will resume his post and will not try to kill or arrest the Lone Wanderer.[3]
- If the Lone Wanderer can successfully talk him into leaving, pick the door lock, and take out the turret before he comes back, the Lone Wanderer will be able to freely come and go even after he returns to his post. Aside from some of the containers marked with red text, you can take anything you want from the armory - even while he's watching - without effect.
- It is also possible to attempt to gain access to the Rivet City Armory by telling him that the Lone Wanderer is there to inspect it. Unfortunately, the robot will recognize your ruse and warn you he will shoot you.[4]

Notable quotes[]
- "This area is off limits to civilians."
- "Sir, yes sir! Private Jones reporting!"
- "[So what's your story, slag heap?] Sir, this slag heap is guarding the armory. Sir!"
- "[Private, there's a security emergency on the flight deck! <Lie>] Sir! That's a really stupid idea, sir!"
Bugs[]
- Private Jones, along with Mister Buckingham, has a tendency to randomly turn hostile towards the player without provocation, even when the rest of Rivet City is peaceful. The other citizens will also turn hostile during the fight even if the player doesn't fight back while being attacked.
- A security guard can run and open the room where the turret is and then turn on you. This causes Private Jones and everyone in the vicinity to turn hostile as though you opened the door.
- If you get too close to the locked armory door, the turret inside will spot you and turn any non-player characters in the room (including Private Jones) hostile.
Appearances[]
Private Jones appears only in Fallout 3.
