Pierre Charles L'Enfant also Peter Charles L'Enfant (August 9, 1754 – June 14, 1825) was a French-born American architect and civil engineer.
Background[]
After studying at the Royal Academy in the Louvre and the Royal Academy of Painting and Sculpture, L'Enfant established a prominent civil engineering firm in New York City. In 1791, George Washington appointed L'Enfant to design Washington, D.C. as per the "L'Enfant Plan." He is commemorated with his own plaza in the city, L'Enfant Plaza.
