A middle aged woman plagued by nightmares, Phyllis lives at the Egret Tours Marina, trying to steer clear of strangers. She believes that she is actually a malfunctioning Institute synth. The reason? After her daughter died, she and her grandson, Samuel, were on their own. She managed to get a job at a farm - tough, but honest work. The horror came one day when she blacked out while on watch, only to wake up to a gun shot and blood splattered all over: She had shot her own little grandson. While the others assumed it was a horrible accident, Phyllis became convinced that she is not who they think she is. The constant nightmares - metal radroaches digging through her fingernails and burrowing under her skin to her brain, fleeing her own gunfire as a Gen 2 synth, the death of Samuel haunting her over and over again - made her increasingly unstable. When she pulled a gun on Wes in her sleep, she decided to leave. She ekes out an existence out there, trying to work up the courage to kill herself. The last attempt at drowning resulted in her body saving her on its own, crawling out of the water.
