It's not a nickname! My name's Penelope! They're just lazy and don't like saying the whole thing is all.

Penny is one of several Little Lamplight children who have been captured by slavers at Paradise Falls, and who is involved in the Rescue from Paradise quest in Fallout 3.

Background[]

Penny is a 12-year-old Lamplighter who spends most of her time alone in a corner of the slave house. She laments that Rory MacLaren, whom she has grown close to, has been in isolation in the Box for a very long time and will likely die if he’s not released. In fact, when the time comes for you to rescue the Lamplighters, Penny will not leave unless she knows Rory has been released from the Box. When not enslaved, Penny is another scavenger team member from Little Lamplight. She’s adept at finding food and understanding animals in the Wasteland, although this particular talent wasn’t of much use when Slavers stumbled across their team. At Lamplight, she spends a lot of time with her brother Joseph, who’s her hero; even though she can usually take care of herself, she admires the way Joseph seems to know everything, and she tries to be like him.[1]

Interactions with the player character[]

Interactions overview[]

This character is essential. Essential characters cannot be killed.
This character is involved in quests.

Effects of player actions[]

Penny refuses to leave without her good friend Rory. It is optional for the player to either help Rory, or convince Penny to leave without him by passing a speech check. Rescuing Penny from Paradise Falls will make her brother Joseph more inclined to help you get into Vault 87, through the method that only he can unlock. After rescuing Penny and talking to her in Little Lamplight, there is an amusing dialogue path which reveals that her real name is Penelope.

Notes[]

  • If you choose to kill all slavers as the means of completing Rescue from Paradise, Rory will occasionally not appear and Penny will simply leave without any mention of him.
  • Alternately, when they refuse to leave, you can shoot them. They can't be hurt and will retreat to Little Lamplight.
