The Paladin Toaster is a weapon in Fallout: New Vegas. It is a unique version of the zap glove.

Characteristics[]

The Paladin Toaster has a black and gray casing as opposed to the zap glove's blue and yellow as well as green lights along the wrist instead of blue. There are three coils along each side similar to the heating coils of an actual toaster. It inflicts more damage than the zap glove as well as bonus damage against robots and enemies wearing power armor.

Location[]

The Paladin Toaster is located in Black Rock Cave. It is lying on the body of a dead prospector, guarded by nightkin.

Notes[]

  • Despite a small energy cell visible at the top of the glove, it does not require any ammunition.
  • The name "Paladin Toaster" possibly stems from its ability to do bonus damage to power armor, which Brotherhood Paladins often wear, it may also be a reference to the game "Wasteland".

Bugs[]

  • PCIcon pc PlayStation 3Icon ps3 Xbox 360Icon xbox360 The Paladin Toaster uses the icon used for the Fallout 3 version of the power fist, despite the game files containing a specific icon for this weapon.
  • PlayStation 3Icon ps3 Xbox 360Icon xbox360 While wearing the T-51b power armor or Remnants power armor, the weapon can clip inside your arm if viewed in 3rd person.
  • PCIcon pc Dropping this weapon on the ground then shooting it will cause the screen to turn white for half a second, as if a flash grenade exploded in front of you.

Behind the scenes[]

Despite using small energy cells in use, the weapon does not drain small energy cells from the player's inventory. This is the result of an engine limitation: melee and unarmed weapons cannot be assigned an ammo type, nor set to drain them. Obsidian encountered problems attempting to implement this feature and ultimately the weapons have an invisible, infinite ammo supply.[1][2]

I intended for several of the Unarmed weapons to use ammo, but we encountered some problems with implementing it. I would have liked to continue with it because I think ammo use/reloading could have helped distinguish those weapons in more interesting ways."
