Back west, you don't see too many of these. Lakes, I mean. Natural or man-made. Any kind, really. We neglected the dams or pumped all the water out a long time ago. Owens, Isabella, the San Luis. Drained the aquifers of everything they had. Just a lot of mud and dust now. It's a different feeling, watching the sun come up over the water. Takes some getting used to. But if you're here long enough, it starts to seem normal. That's what a ranger's life is now. Looking east.

Owens Lake is a dry lake bed in Owens Valley on eastern side of the Sierra Nevada area in California.

Background[]

The dry lake bed of Owens Lake was the staging ground for many raider attacks throughout the Sierra Nevada region of California, and were commonplace for surrounding towns, such as One Pine. However, in 2269, the New California Republic Army pacified the remaining raider tribes in the area, bringing a lasting peace to the heartland of the Republic between Shady Sands and the Hub.[1]

Appearances[]

Owens Lake is mentioned only in Fallout: New Vegas.

  1. Aaron Kimball: "Troopers and rangers, just like you, answered the clarion call. Men and women stepped forward to say, "I will carry the weight." And at Owen's Lake, we made true on our promise, driving out the raider tribes to establish a lasting peace in the eastern Sierra Nevadas. We carried the weight, and though we left behind many of our brothers and sisters on that battlefield, it did not break us."
