Otho is the legionary who is responsible for the arena at Caesar's camp; which is currently the Fort. His responsibilities include setting up the fights, keeping track of the prisoners available, and making sure the arena's cleaned after each battle.[1] He has had this post for years, possibly decades, as he claims to have watched Lanius as a recruit kill ten men in the area with his bare hands. He believes Lanius feels no pain and knows he never shows mercy and that if all Legionaries were like him, the Legion would be invincible.[2] Despite what thinks of Lanius, he considers "the Burned Man" their greatest warrior. Although he believes that he is dead, he has heard the rumors that Caesar has send scouts out looking for him.[3]
He like all legionaries follow what Caesar has taught them, including their attitude toward women. In the teachings of Caesar "women are beneath notice," and suitable only for breeding. He particularly believes in the gender roles of the Legion,[4] and wouldn't allow one to speak to him unless they were Caesar's guest.[5][6]
Section needed (the arena)
This section is needed but has not been written yet. You can help The Vault by writing it.
Nothin' But a Hound Dog: Since Otho runs the arena, it means he can set up the fight between you and Lupa one of the dogs whose brain can be transplanted into Rex.
Render Unto Caesar: Otho sets up the fight between you and Benny, if you choose to kill Benny that way.
Laurifer Gladiator: Otho will set fights up for you in the Arena, but only if you're male.
Otho will not let you fight in the arena if your character is a woman. No exceptions. However, if you are male, he will let you fight increasingly difficult enemies. After these are completed Otho will tell you that nobody is brave enough to fight you.
Other interactions[]
Low-intelligence characters (3 or below) have a special dialogue in which the player confuses Otho's purpose of setting up fights instead of participating in fights. Otho will call the player an imbecile and clarify what he does.[7]
↑The Courier: "What do you do?" Otho: "I set up the fights, keep track of prisoners available, and make sure the arena's cleaned up." (Otho's dialogue)
↑The Courier: "What can you tell me about the Legate?" Otho: "A great warrior. When he was but a recruit, I watched him kill ten men in the arena with his bare hands. He doesn't feel pain and he never, ever shows mercy. If all Legionaries were like him, the Legion would be invincible." (Otho's dialogue)
↑The Courier: "What do you know about the Burned Man?" Otho: "It's not something we like to speak of. The Burned Man was our greatest warrior, even greater than Legate Lanius, but he failed Caesar at the Dam. He's been dead for several years now, but the rumor is that Caesar has scouts out looking for him all the same. The Burned Man was a very tough man." (Otho's dialogue)
↑The Courier: "I'd like to fight in the arena." Otho: "Know your place, woman. Unlike the Profligates of the NCR, only men fight in the Legion." (Otho's dialogue)
↑The Courier: "Do you have a problem with women?" Otho: "Women are beneath notice, as Caesar has taught us. I'm only allowing you to speak to me because you are Caesar's guest. I may yet, if Caesar commands it." (Otho's dialogue)
↑The Courier: "What do you know about the Burned Man?" Otho: "Ask someone else, woman." (Otho's dialogue)
↑The Courier: "Okay. Let's fight." Otho: "No, imbecile, that's not how it works. I set up the fights, then you go in the arena and fight." (Otho's dialogue)
