Having seen great misery and suffering in her life, Nicole refused to give into bitterness and disillusionment. She responded to hardship with challenge: She founded the Followers of the Apocalypse, a pacifist group dedicated to spreading knowledge, peace, and convincing people to shy away from violence. As their spiritual leader, she guides the Followers to a better future, but remains acutely aware of the harsh reality of the wastelands.[1]
That awareness was shaped by her experiences. She grew up near San Diego and the Great Glow. As sickness spread through her community, the people migrated north.[2] That prompted the foundation of the Followers, to stop the senseless violence and killing.[3] Although the philosophy is a hard sell in a reality where violence seems the easier path take, she and the Followers don't give up hope.
The most important opponent of the Followers by 2161 is not misery or death, but the Children of the Cathedral. Nicole suspects that something is amiss with the cult, her distrust fueled by reports of the nightkin and Morpheus' wrongdoing. She even managed to plant a spy in the cult, to expose their hidden face.[1]
"We try to remind people why the Great War happened in the first place. And help insure it won't ever happen again."
"Our destiny lies before us. Let us hope we are worthy."
"Hey! I don't appreciate that, but I'll overlook it if you apologize."

She is a serene and spiritual person who tends to ramble a bit, but who believes in her group, and in their plan to make the world a better place with their message of peace and nonviolence. She may hold a philosophy of nonviolence, but Nicole hates the Children of the Cathedral, whom she believes to be evil. She has seen Morpheus and the Nightkin, and believes the hospitals and good works are a sham-a cover for something dark and malevolent." "She is also a good source of information about things in the LA area."
