Miria is the daughter of Modoc's slaughterhouse owner, Grisham, and a potential companion in Fallout 2.

Background[]

Miria is a resident in the town of Modoc, daughter of the slaughterhouse owner Grisham, and sister of Davin.

A font of local gossip, she will talk the ears off of travelers recounting the goings-on of Modoc. However, she draws the line at talking about her brother[1], which may be due to an incestuous relationship between the two,[2] and may be sleeping with her uncle, Biff.[3]

Statistically, this would not be surprising, as Miria has a very active sex life.[4][5] Those who are disdainful of her sexpertise, and choose to engage in slut-shaming, will earn her ire, and she will refuse all attempts at conversation from that point on.[4] Conversely, those who play their cards right may find themselves in for a very pleasant night...[5] followed by a rude awakening at the hands of her shotgun-toting father.

This character is a permanent party member.

Marriage[]

Male or female characters with Charisma 8, or with Charisma 7 and a good town reputation[6], can add Miria into the party by marrying her. Unlike with Davin, this is achieved by first conversing with her about subjects other than sex, then steering the conversation towards this. Eventually she will lose restraint and then... the usual fade-to-black (except that in this case, the player's entire inventory ends up on the ground). After the deed is done, Grisham will barge in and confront the player. If male, the player can attempt to explain away the awkward situation as a "medical examination". If this works, you can convince Miria to have sex with you again and again, making it easier to achieve the Gigolo perk. Otherwise, the only options are running and shotgun marriage. Note that this sequence can become bugged, so the more the player does during the brief interval between the deed and being 'caught' by Grisham, and the more the player does during the ceremony, the more likely that is to occur.

If you lack the required Charisma, and try to (aggressively) seduce her anyway, she will yell for her father, and the whole town will turn hostile towards you.

You may choose to kill Grisham with super stimpaks (giving him five and resting for ten minutes should be enough) when attempting to sleep with Miria. After he's gone, Uncle Biff will give you the same dialogue as her father, though he looks strangely familiar and there are infinite Uncle Biffs.

She can be married regardless of the player's party limit. Should you then ask someone to wait, she will fill the empty slot, and no new party members can be added.

If you run out on the marriage ceremony, the town of Modoc will turn hostile, so make sure you're finished with the area before you do.

Separation[]

As with her brother, Miria is extremely clingy: once you are married, you cannot ask her to wait for you anywhere. The only way to remove her from your party is to permanently part company, in one of three ways:

  1. Death — Attack her; allow her to be killed in combat; make her walk over a floor trap; or rip out her brain.
  2. Sell her into slavery to any of three slavers:
    1. Metzger (the Den) will pay ~$1100 (influenced by barter).
    2. Big Jesus (New Reno) will pay $250 ($500 with high enough Barter). You must be a slaver to sell to Jesus.
    3. Barkus (Vault City) will pay $250 ($500 with high enough Barter).
  3. Divorce — Ask Father Tully in New Reno for a divorce.

Any of these options will cause her to leave the player's party — and the game — permanently, and the player's "Married" status to become "Separated." If you return to Modoc and tell Grisham of her fate (or her presumed fate), he'll have a fatal heart attack on the spot.

Combat Effectiveness[]

Once married, Miria will not leave the party unless killed, sold, or divorced. Like Davin, she has no additional points in any skills whatsoever, but since the default for Unarmed has the highest base value, she is most proficient (or least inept) at that skill. Like Davin, and unlike regular companion NPCs, neither her skills, HP, nor AP improve. Neither Miria nor Davin can level up. Being human-sized, she can wear armor.

Unlike Davin, she only has a Strength of three rather than four, which means she cannot use any submachine guns without an accuracy penalty to her already deficient skill. On the other hand, the +50 to-hit bonus for short-range fire helps a lot.

Miria's brother, Davin can be married instead, with similar implications for the party's average combat readiness.

Transactional Interactions[]

"Fall in love, get married, and then pimp your spouse for a little extra chump-change. Hey, it's a dark and dangerous world."

Fallout 2 retail box art, US edition[7]

Trappers are interested in spending quality time with Miria, although this is no way to get rich.

Likewise, the Corsican Brothers are always looking for skilled fluffers willing to work for next to nothing. (Or, more precisely, for someone whose potentially exploitative spouse will "volunteer" them for the task.)

Similarly, the player can pimp out Miria to a patron in The Hole in the Den, for either $50 or $200.

Bugs[]

As with all companions, Miria may disappear if you sleep with Mrs. or Ms. Bishop and then save and reload your game before heading downstairs. Though Miria (and your other companions) will return the next time you sleep with either Bishop, this bug can be useful for keeping Miria out of harm's way, or even for overcoming the five-follower limit (since "disappeared" companions don't count against the limit, allowing you to recruit more followers before you retrieve the disappeared ones).[8]

Appearances in games[]

Miria appears only in Fallout 2 as a companion NPC.
