Background[]
He was a U.S. Army infantryman and part of the initial assault on the abandoned mining town on the way to the listening post. As the Lone Wanderer draws near, they can see McKinney lean out from behind a train car, ignoring the warning of a nearby soldier. He is killed a moment later when his head explodes after being shot by an enemy sniper.
After his death his family presents his trifold flag to their hometown of Jamaica Plain to be displayed as a central memorial in their time capsule.[1]
