While I am not privy to current or past events due to severance of my communications system, I am aware a situation must have occurred. However, as long as I am still able to function, my directive remains unchanged. I will amend my memory array with the information you have provided.

— M.A.R.Go.T

M.A.R.Go.T. (Metro Authority Rapid Governmental Transit System)[1] is a pre-War computer system found in the Presidential metro in 2277.

Background

In service since April 14, 2065, M.A.R.Go.T. is a pre-ZAX (i.e. pre-sentient) computer system that watches over the Presidential Metro connecting the White House with the Capitol Building as well as Adams Air Force Base.[2][3] A nearby maintenance terminal in the metro mentions that M.A.R.Go.T. originally had a male voice, but was changed to a female's voice during its development just so that the system could be given the acronym M.A.R.Go.T. as a name. Much to the annoyance of the maintenance worker who was given the responsibility of programming her new voice, this was a task implied to be somewhat onerous.[4]

Apparently M.A.R.Go.T. realizes something happened on the surface long ago, but is not sure what. In the end, what happened is meaningless to her anyway as her primary function is to protect the Metro and she will continue to do so until she is no longer able to.[5][6] This entails assisting Congressional and military personnel when possible,[7][8] ensuring the safety of these personnel in accordance with U.S. Security Statute A567/B,[9] and playing corporate advertisements over the speaker system.[10]

Specifications

M.A.R.Go.T. was designed and programmed with a number of advanced features to aid her in the operation of the Presidential Metro. The installed core central processing and logic unit possesses many different variables and opportunities for thought and learning, as well and extensive memory array.[6] Upon request, a self status report (which grades performance based on a maximum capacity of 100%) can be delivered to authorized personnel, which evaluates functionality of train lines, damaged systems, breached security defenses and uplink success.[11][12][13] The system is also capable of commanding a large number of mechanized security units and designating friendly targets to not be engaged by these security units.[14][15]

Thermal sensors equipped throughout the metro are capable of detecting all persons in the subway through their body heat; they are so precise that the system can actually gauge the amount of radiation a person may be giving off.[16] Magnetic sensors near M.A.R.Go.T.'s mainframe allow for remote scanning for the detection of authorized identification, in the form of keycards worn by personnel.[17] Speech recognition programs were designed to detect voice patterns and tones to distinguish the motive of potentially deceptive intruders.[18][19]

This character is involved in quests.

Quests

  • Who Dares Wins: When approaching M.A.R.Go.T., her voice will ask you to approach the console to identify yourself. After passing a very hard speech check, using your Science skill, displaying the Senate employee ID, or using the Robotics Expert perk, you can gain more information and the nearby sentry bots and Mister Gutsies will no longer be hostile to you. She will also inform the player that the fuse for the Metro needs to be replaced before the train to Adams Air Force Base can be used but will not allow the sentry bot with the replacement to be activated until the security breach is contained.

Effects of player actions

  • If you fail to identify yourself and M.A.R.Go.T. turns hostile, all of the robots in the Metro will remain hostile towards you.
