While I am not privy to current or past events due to severance of my communications system, I am aware a situation must have occurred. However, as long as I am still able to function, my directive remains unchanged. I will amend my memory array with the information you have provided.
M.A.R.Go.T. (Metro Authority Rapid Governmental Transit System) is a pre-War computer system found in the Presidential metro in 2277.
In service since April 14, 2065, M.A.R.Go.T. is a pre-ZAX (i.e. pre-sentient) computer system that watches over the Presidential Metro connecting the White House with the Capitol Building as well as Adams Air Force Base. A nearby maintenance terminal in the metro mentions that M.A.R.Go.T. originally had a male voice, but was changed to a female's voice during its development just so that the system could be given the acronym M.A.R.Go.T. as a name. Much to the annoyance of the maintenance worker who was given the responsibility of programming her new voice, this was a task implied to be somewhat onerous.
Apparently M.A.R.Go.T. realizes something happened on the surface long ago, but is not sure what. In the end, what happened is meaningless to her anyway as her primary function is to protect the Metro and she will continue to do so until she is no longer able to. This entails assisting Congressional and military personnel when possible, ensuring the safety of these personnel in accordance with U.S. Security Statute A567/B, and playing corporate advertisements over the speaker system.
M.A.R.Go.T. was designed and programmed with a number of advanced features to aid her in the operation of the Presidential Metro. The installed core central processing and logic unit possesses many different variables and opportunities for thought and learning, as well and extensive memory array. Upon request, a self status report (which grades performance based on a maximum capacity of 100%) can be delivered to authorized personnel, which evaluates functionality of train lines, damaged systems, breached security defenses and uplink success. The system is also capable of commanding a large number of mechanized security units and designating friendly targets to not be engaged by these security units.
Thermal sensors equipped throughout the metro are capable of detecting all persons in the subway through their body heat; they are so precise that the system can actually gauge the amount of radiation a person may be giving off. Magnetic sensors near M.A.R.Go.T.'s mainframe allow for remote scanning for the detection of authorized identification, in the form of keycards worn by personnel. Speech recognition programs were designed to detect voice patterns and tones to distinguish the motive of potentially deceptive intruders.
Who Dares Wins: When approaching M.A.R.Go.T., her voice will ask you to approach the console to identify yourself. After passing a very hard speech check, using your Science skill, displaying the Senate employee ID, or using the Robotics Expert perk, you can gain more information and the nearby sentry bots and Mister Gutsies will no longer be hostile to you. She will also inform the player that the fuse for the Metro needs to be replaced before the train to Adams Air Force Base can be used but will not allow the sentry bot with the replacement to be activated until the security breach is contained.
Effects of player actions
If you fail to identify yourself and M.A.R.Go.T. turns hostile, all of the robots in the Metro will remain hostile towards you.
↑The Lone Wanderer: "What's your job down here?" M.A.R.Go.T.: "My primary function is to maintain security for the Presidential Metro System and ensure the safety of all its passengers. I was installed and activated within the Presidential Metro on April 14th, 2065 and switched on at precisely 5:20am. I have been carrying out this primary function since that inception date." (M.A.R.Go.T.'s dialogue)
↑The Lone Wanderer: "Do you know anything regarding the war that happened 200 years ago?" M.A.R.Go.T.: "While I am not privy to current or past events due to severance of my communications system, I am aware a situation must have occurred. However, as long as I am still able to function, my directive remains unchanged. I will amend my memory array with the information you have provided." The Lone Wanderer: "So... then you must realize everything on the surface is gone." M.A.R.Go.T.: "That information appears congruous with the information you have already provided. However, such an event does not change my primary function." (M.A.R.Go.T.'s dialogue)
↑ 6.06.1The Lone Wanderer: "That seems admirable, but hardly necessary." M.A.R.Go.T.: "My core central processing and logic unit has many variables and opportunities for independent thought and learning. However, my primary function is paramount to any other function and must be followed until I am no longer able to perform the task. I appreciate your concern regarding this matter, and have noted and filed it in my memory array." (M.A.R.Go.T.'s dialogue)
↑The Lone Wanderer: "I'm from the United States Army and I'm here to provide assistance." M.A.R.Go.T.: "Scanning memory array... Request to U.S. Army for assistance was rendered 17 years, 26 days, 9 hours and 16 minutes ago. Information regarding request is available in my database. How may I assist you today?" (M.A.R.Go.T.'s dialogue)
↑The Lone Wanderer: "I'm just wandering through." M.A.R.Go.T.: "Your answer is not acceptable. This is a high security area. Your presence in this area is a direct violation of U.S. Security Statute A567/B. Please provide proper identification or I will be forced to summon security units and lock out this access point." The Lone Wanderer: "Look, I just stumbled across this place. I don't know what you're talking about." M.A.R.Go.T.: "That is not proper identification. You are in direct violation of U.S. Security Statute A567/B. Security is now being summoned. Have a nice day." (M.A.R.Go.T.'s dialogue)
↑M.A.R.Go.T.: "This next series of announcements is brought to you by the Nuka-Cola Corporation." "Please stop by any of the conveniently placed Nuka-Cola machines throughout the Metro and purchase some refreshing Nuka-Cola today!" "The Nuka-Cola Corporation is proud to announce its newest taste sensation, Nuka-Cola Quantum. Try one today." "This holiday season, bring home a gift for your child that he or she will cherish for a lifetime... bring home a Red Racer Tricycle." (M.A.R.Go.T.'s dialogue)
↑The Lone Wanderer: "What's the current status of the Presidential Metro?" M.A.R.Go.T.: "Currently, the Presidential Metro is running at 22 percent capacity. The only fully functional train line at the moment is the White House to Adams Air Force Base line." (M.A.R.Go.T.'s dialogue)
↑The Lone Wanderer: "Give me your Self Status Report." M.A.R.Go.T.: "I am currently functioning at 78 percent capacity which is well within acceptable operating parameters. The following systems are fully non-operative or damaged: surface visual systems and communications uplink to White House and Police Department. There is additional partial damage to my internal sensing devices and numerous severed data lines." (M.A.R.Go.T.'s dialogue)
↑The Lone Wanderer: "Let me hear the Security Status Report." M.A.R.Go.T.: "Outer doors to the surface are no longer secured and external security defenses are down. There is a major breach in the southeast tunnels and security units are currently handling the situation." (M.A.R.Go.T.'s dialogue)
↑The Lone Wanderer: "What security units did you send in to stop the unidentified persons?" M.A.R.Go.T: "This system is able to command a large number of mechanized security units. So far, 22 percent of these robotic units have been depleted on the breach." (M.A.R.Go.T.'s dialogue)
↑The Lone Wanderer: "I'd like for you to deactivate all your security units." M.A.R.Go.T.: "Negative. All security units must remain active at all times. However, upon properly accessing this system, you have been marked as a friendly and should see no further hostility from said units." (M.A.R.Go.T.'s dialogue)
↑The Lone Wanderer: "Can you tell me more about these unidentified persons?" M.A.R.Go.T.: "My apologies. My sensing equipment in that area must be damaged. My equipment indicates the persons possess no internal body heat and are emitting lethal levels of radiation." (M.A.R.Go.T.'s dialogue)
↑M.A.R.Go.T.: "Scanning potential intruder... Senate Identification detected. Unlocking access point and logging identity in mainframe. How may I assist you today, Senator?" (M.A.R.Go.T.'s dialogue)
↑The Lone Wanderer: "I'm from the United States Army and I'm here to provide assistance." M.A.R.Go.T.: "Fluctuations in your vocal tones indicate your statements are fallacious. Further attempts at deception will result in immediate response by security forces. Repeating query: Please identify yourself." (M.A.R.Go.T.'s dialogue)
↑The [[Lone Wanderer: "Everyone's dead, you stupid tin can!" M.A.R.Go.T.: "Your candor in this matter is not productive but unsurprising if the situation on the surface is exactly as you have described. As for my primary function, I will continue to execute its instructions for as long as necessary or until I am no longer able to carry out this task. I appreciate your concern regarding this matter, and have noted and filed it in my memory array." (M.A.R.Go.T.'s dialogue)
