Leather armor is an armor set-type item in Fallout 4.

Characteristics

Leather armor consists of five different pieces that make up the entire set, one for each limb, and as well as a torso piece. They can be worn over thin clothing with ease, and can be modified with standard armor mods, although only material mods change the armor's appearance. Leather armor is tilted more toward protection against energy weapons[1] although it does protect against ballistic based weaponry.

Leather armor provides benefits to players who prefer stealth, since it offers a "Shadowed" upgrade, which makes the player harder to see in the dark, and it is lightweight, which, according to the in-game tips, also benefits stealth.

Although all these leather armor variants are post-War creations, they are usually found sporadically. See also Leather coat.

Standard

Pauldrons on the left and right shoulders are held on via a simple strap around the brachium. On the right pauldron however is a bandoleer sash, with three large front pockets. Attached through 3 loops this in turn holds up the utility belt. On the right of the belt there are five large caliber rounds, then on the right of that is a large pocket, finally on the back right is three small ammunition pouches. This bandoleer sash, and utility belt combo is held on abdomen strap via large belt buckle. Which is in the center of the back. This is hooked to the center of the utility belt as well.

Its vambraces on the left and right forearms as well as the poleyn to protect the knees and greaves to protect the shins are held on with simple leather straps in the same style as the pauldrons.

Sturdy

With the sturdy level of protection, the pauldrons on the left and right shoulders are held on via a simple sleeve around the brachium. Just as on the standard level of protection, the right pauldron is a bandoleer sash, with three large front pockets. Attached through 3 loops this in turn holds up the utility belt. Just as on the standard level of protection, on the right of the belt there are five large caliber rounds, then on the right of that is a large pocket, next on the back right is three small ammunition pouches. However on this level or protection - sturdy - there are two medium sized pockets. A codpiece has been added, attached to the utility belt via straps. On the chest however is a new addition, a right sided chest and back piece. Held on with additional straps, making the abdomen strap count two and adding two to attach to the left pauldron. The top one of these is to the piece itself while the bottom one is to the top abdomen strap. The bandoleer sash is above this right chest piece.

Its vambraces on the left and right forearms as well as the poleyn to protect the knees and greaves to protect the shins are held on with simple leather sleeves in the same style as the pauldrons. However couters have been added to the vambraces. Furthermore cuisse have been added, held on with simple straps above a sleeve that opens in the center of the leg underneath them.

Heavy

With the heavy level of protection the vambraces, couters, and pauldrons are carried over. As well as the utility belt, bandoleer sash and codpiece. However it is to be noted that added to the pauldrons are larger, fanning pauldrons. Also included is a fully covering chest piece. It is composed of two front and back chest pieces tied together. The front straps are a simple three tie design, however the back tie is of four. Under this chest armor is abdomen armor. Above all this rests the bandoleer sash.

The cuisse have been changed, the top is removed and there is more stitching to the under sleeve. Furthermore pockets have been added to their tops. The under sleeve has been more than just enlarged, now extending from just past the codpiece - retained from the previous level of protection - all the way down to the greaves. The polyn have been enlarged, and the greaves are the same.

Modifications

This item has the following modification slots: Material, Misc.

  • Material mods can't be swapped between arms and legs, even though they cost the same and provide the same bonuses.
  • Misc mods that are available to both arms and legs can be swapped.
  • You can find Muffled arms as loot, but this is a bug. If the Muffled mod is removed from the arms, it cannot be re-added.
