This leather armor is based on pre-War armor designed for Motorcycle Football and other dangerous contact sports. The simple construction techniques required to produce armor of this design made it a popular choice following the Great War. It provides moderate protection, and the light construction makes it easier to dodge attacks while worn. Unfortunately, it provides little to no protection against explosions or plasma attacks.[1]
The principal material used to construct leather armor after the war is tanned brahmin hide,[2] making it cheap and readily available to nearly anyone.
Characteristics[]
An excellent starting armor, available from the Khan base onwards. It's light, offers decent protection and is good enough to last until the player finds combat armor.
Early concept art shows that the armor was supposed to have a helmet. This was scrapped before release.
Furthermore, this is the oldest suit implemented in the game, part of it before the game was even called Fallout.

The leather armor was part of Fallout even before it was named Fallout.
