The Laser rifle beam splitter is a type of weapon mod in Fallout: New Vegas.

Characteristics

This mod splits a laser rifle's beam into three. If all beams hit, the base damage is 30% higher. The three beams are close to one another, so this does not really give the laser much in the way of a 'shotgun' effect. While this upgrade will improve damage against most types of enemies, it will actually make a laser rifle less effective against heavily armored ones, since armor subtracts from the damage dealt by each laser beam shot. This will synergize well with a high critical chance because each beam is capable of being a critical hit.

Notes

• Prior to patch 1.3.0.452, the beam splitter was only worth 250 caps.
• Before patch 1.4.0.525 the 30% bonus was never applied. This has since been corrected.

Bugs

• Xbox 360 PC PlayStation 3 Attaching it to a laser rifle produces three beams, contrary to its description which states two.
  • Josh Sawyer's personal patch fixes this (reduces beam count to 2) but requires all the add-ons.
