Welcome to Shady Sands, traveler. My name is Katrina. My job is to greet strangers and help them understand our village. We find that there are fewer problems if you listen to what I have to say.

Katrina is a resident of Shady Sands in Fallout. She serves as the town's guide.[1]


A very polite woman with a pretty smile and sixty years of age,[2][3][4] Katrina was originally an inhabitant of Vault 15. She spent most of her life there, including her childhood and teenage years, witnessing the overcrowding and poor life conditions that eventually caused the dwellers to open the Vault. Unlike most, she stayed behind with a group of other dwellers, trying to continue living in a shelter stripped of its best equipment by the emerging dwellers.[5]

However, it all came crashing down when the Vault came under attack by the newly formed raider tribes. Katrina survived the attack. Wounded, she emerged into the wastes. Her severe injuries would have claimed her life, if it wasn't for luck: The people of Shady Sands, a village formed by Vault 15 dwellers that left the shelter, found her and took her in. Ever since, Katrina lives with them and helps however she can. The small village is perfect for her. The desert air and the stars at night are all she needs to be happy.[6][7][8]

  • Talk to Katrina: Upon talking to Katrina, the player can gain 250 experience by asking questions related to the Vault she originated from, and asking for help finding a water chip. Katrina is a tutorial character considering her dialogue is focused around explaining a few fundamental game-play systems, including bartering, healing, and the First Aid and Doctor skills.

He is recovering in the guardhouse over there. [She points to the east] He is more widely travelled than I.}"
