John Adams (July 11, 1767 – February 23, 1848) was the second president of the United States of America, serving from 1797 to 1801.
Background
Before being the second president of the United States, Adams was the first vice president. He came to prominence during the American Revolution as a delegate to the Second Continental Congress for Massachusetts. A leading advocate for American independence from Great Britain, he persuaded Congress to a similar position and aided Thomas Jefferson in drafting the Declaration of Independence. He is mentioned in the National Archives' pop quiz terminals.
