A 75mm Howitzer shell. The casing has mostly corroded away, but you can make out these letters. EXP. 9-25-98.

The howitzer shell is a quest item in Fallout 2. It is acquired from the building at west side of the yard of Sierra Army Depot, and is required to get into the depot.

Obtaining

The shell is located in the small storage bunker near the base entrance. To gain access to the Sierra Army Base, the player must use the shell on the howitzer in the garage to blow the base doors open.

Fallout: New Vegas

Howitzer shells can also be found in Fallout: New Vegas as non-obtainable static objects at Nellis Air Force Base mostly in the array power depot. They can be made to explode if hit with any type of weapon (excluding melee or unarmed). This makes combat in the array depot quite challenging, especially as the hostile giant ants in the area can explode themselves when killed, which can set off explosive chain reactions with the shells.

Appearances

The Howitzer shell appears only inFallout 2 and Fallout: New Vegas.

  • Some more shells can be found when at Nellis Air Force Base doing the quest to kill the ants in the satelite array.
