Howitzer shell | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||

“
A 75mm Howitzer shell. The casing has mostly corroded away, but you can make out these letters. EXP. 9-25-98.
”The howitzer shell is a quest item in Fallout 2 and an environmental danger in Fallout: New Vegas.
Fallout 2
- The shell is located in the small storage bunker on the west side of the Sierra Army Depot yard, near the base entrance. To gain access to the Sierra Army Base, the player must use the shell on the howitzer in the garage to blow the base doors open.
Fallout: New Vegas
- Howitzer shells can be found at Nellis Air Force Base, in the solar array building. They can't be picked up by the player and act as environmental dangers that can explode if accidentally (or intentionally) hit with guns, energy weapons or explosives. Compounding this danger is the fact the giant ants in the building have been eating gunpowder and explode if hit by explosives or energy weapons. The shells deal 500 damage in a radius of 12.5 yards--comparable to the effect of five 40mm grenades.
- A Saturnite artillery shell must be fired (already loaded into the gun) from a fixed artillery piece at the X-7a "Left Field" artillery launch to form a crater, revealing a hidden cache at the X-7b "Boom Town" target zone.
Variants
- Saturnite artillery shells
- Flak shells
Appearances
The Howitzer shell appears only in Fallout 2 and Fallout: New Vegas.
