“
There's two kinds of people who get into Paradise Falls. Slaves and Slavers. So, unless you're looking to become a slave, piss off.
”— Grouse Jurley, when first approached by the Lone Wanderer.Grouse Jurley is a slaver at Paradise Falls in Fallout 3.
Background[]
Grouse was born in 2247 and has been with the slavers since he was a teenager. His father was the former leader of the slavers before Eulogy Jones usurped him and rose to power, and Grouse has a legacy to live up to. He isn't fond of Eulogy, but he knows that if he moves against him, most of the slavers would turn on him. Instead, he just sits at the checkpoint in a permanently foul mood.[1]

Notes[]
- Grouse is the only source of slave collars in the game. Should Grouse die the Lone Wanderer will be unable to obtain a new slave collar or caps for a successful enslavement. However, so long as the Lone Wanderer has a slave collar in inventory they will be able to use it to enslave a mezzed non-player character, albeit for no reward other than negative karma (and removing the enslaved non-player character from the game).
- He will become hostile if the Lone Wanderer preaches to him for the second time after he dismisses the Lone Wanderer. This will cause the rest of the slavers in Paradise Falls to become hostile as well.
Behind the scenes[]
- Grouse, by definition, means to complain, which he does a lot.
Bugs[]
- If the Lone Wanderer gives Grouse 500 caps without bringing up the slaves, Grouse will grant the Lone Wanderer permission to access Paradise Falls without asking the Lone Wanderer to enslave the 4 "VIP" targets (the Strictly Business quest). However, if the Lone Wanderer later discusses the slaves, Grouse will ask the Lone Wanderer to capture one of the 4 VIPs in order to gain access Paradise Falls, despite having already given the Lone Wanderer permission to enter.
