The Gobi Campaign scout rifle is a unique weapon in Fallout: New Vegas.

Background[]

The following section is transcluded from sniper rifle. To modify, please edit the source page.

This sniper rifle is an older model of the famed DKS-501, chambered for .308 ammunition. Apart from a frame tailored for sniping, it boasts a muzzle flash dampener, a monopod that doubles as a forward grip as well as a rubberized eyepiece and stock for extra comfort.[1] It's an extremely fragile precision rifle and requires regular repair and maintenance to keep it in working condition.

A number of these military grade rifles has been customized for the purposes of the Gobi Campaign. Military reconnaissance teams were provided with an exceptional precision rifle. The original DKS-501 was taken apart and reassembled with a carbon fiber body, precision engineered trigger group, chamber, and barrel, larger magazines, maintenance kit in the stock, and a three tone desert camouflage. The barrel length was reduced for increased portability.[2]

A single scout rifle is confirmed to exist as late as 2281, located in the Mojave Wasteland in an NCRA sniper nest.

Characteristics[]

Gobi Campaign scout rifle expanded

The unique variant of the sniper rifle deals better damage, normal and critical, and is more accurate, with a better scope, rate of fire, and durability. The critical damage is increased to boot, while the AP cost is reduced.

Like other unique weapons, the rifle doesn't accept modifications, meaning it cannot be suppressed. It does come pre-modded with the carbon fiber parts, however.

Notes[]

  • Prior to patch 1.2.0.314, the scout rifle dealt 60 points of damage on normal and critical hits, and had a crit multiplier of 5. They were reduced to 40 damage and a multiplier of 1 in this patch.
  • Prior to patch 1.3.0.452, the scout rifle also used 33 AP per shot and fired 1.75 times per second. They were changed to 24 AP and 2.15 shots per second. In addition, the patch overwrote the damage and crit chance changes from 1.2.0.314, setting them to 48 damage, 80 damage on critical hits, and a multiplier of 2.
