Gobi Campaign refers to a military operation conducted by United States forces in the Gobi Desert. The desert environment stretching between the Altai Mountains and Mongolian steppes to the north and the Hexi Corridor, Tibetan Plateau, and North China plain in the south necessitated the use of desert camouflage. Recon elements, for instance, were issued rifles bearing this type of camouflage.[2]
