Ah, blog posts are listed in their own section at the bottom of the category page, even under images. I guess it's that's not *that* bad. Still, I'd prefer blog and article categories to be clearly separate. Ausir 20:48, 1 July 2009 (UTC)

News

Actually, looks like the blogs can be pretty useful. There's a blog listing functionality, which allowed me to create this page: The Vault:News, which aggregates all blog posts added to Category:News. It's possible to embed it on the main page as well, and with this The Vault could become a good news source as well. Anyone can add post news by adding their blog posts to the News category, but silly news posts will of course be deleted.

I proposed proposing making a separate news functionality based on this code in the Central Wikia forum, though, with a separate News: namespace. But for now, the blogs can be pretty neat for that as well. Ausir 23:21, 1 July 2009 (UTC)

Wikilogs

I've tried to submit a news post today but I can't publish it. The Wikilog options section on the edit page is just empty. Is there anything that can be done? veryblackraven 09:01, 11 July 2012 (UTC)

A post is marked as publish as soon as the following is present on the page (preferably at the end):

{{wl-publish: YYYY-MM-DD HH:MM:SS +0000 | <user name of author> }}

For example:

{{wl-publish: 2012-07-11 09:05:02 +0000 | Veryblackraven }}

When the "publish" option works, all it does is to add that code at the bottom of the post. -- Porter21 _(talk) 09:15, 11 July 2012 (UTC)

Yeah, you need to use the format in my post above. It's also possible to achieve the same effect with various other combinations of Wikilog parser functions, but that one's the easiest (and the default). -- Porter21 _(talk) 09:15, 11 July 2012 (UTC)

Here they say it is possible to add just ~~~~ at it will be auto-replaced with {{wl-publish: current time | user name }}. Have to try it next time. veryblackraven 11:51, 11 July 2012 (UTC)

I can confirm that using the four tildes method works perfectly. 20:20, 16 July 2012 (UTC)

The tilde method is basically a convenience shortcut; if you take a look at the blogs after they've been saved, you'll notice that {{wl-publish: ~~~~}} gets replaced with something akin to what I posted above. Using both should be fine (theoretically). -- Porter21 _(talk) 10:05, 17 July 2012 (UTC)

I only tried to fix it here on the Vault - the Wasteland Wiki is a completely separate MediaWiki installation. The fix is now live on Wasteland Wiki as well - please let me know if the issues persist. -- Porter21 _(talk) 08:31, 3 August 2012 (UTC)

Linking RSS to Google+ and Facebook

The Vault has pages on both Facebook and Google+. But the Facebook page posts only today's featured articles and Google+ has only two publications from the old community.falloutwiki.com.

I wonder if we can link our blogs' RSS to both of them (not only News blog but the whole Wikilog feed)? AFAIK Feedburner can do such things (at least guys on DAC post their news on Facebook as they have issues with site's RSS). Doing this will help us to promote the wiki and we really need some promotion.

BTW the Twitter seems to be Ausir's personal account so maybe we should think about creating a new one (TheVaultWiki name is still free, but TheVault and FalloutWiki are already taken). veryblackraven 23:06, 25 August 2012 (UTC)

Sounds like a good idea. I'm not really an expert regarding either Facebook or Google+ though, so no useful feedback on feasibility from me :P I don't have access to the accounts either; only Ausir does as far as I know so I guess we'll have to wait for him to notice this topic. -- Porter21 _(talk) 17:31, 1 September 2012 (UTC)

Just something I noticed. When you aren't signed in, the news displays on the home page fine, but as soon as you sign in, it says that there isn't any news. Any ideas? -- GOTW ^{User | Talk} 17:26, 1 October 2012 (UTC)
