I've logged far more hours on this game than I will ever admit to, and there are some changes I would make to make the game better. Here they are in no particular order:

  • Extend Levels from 30 to 50 (I can level to 30 on "normal" too quickly and there is too much game left to play after maxing-out my character))
  • Make the leveling more difficult-regardless of what difficulty you play on
  • Limit the number of Stimpacs available (I have 800+). This would require more strategic use of beds and food, water, etc. As it is, what's the point of having food and water in the game? Too many options for restoring health.
  • More enemies in the open wasteland to kill and interact with
  • I want to join other factions like the Enclave, Super Mutants, Raiders, etc.
  • There should be more private houses available than the ones in Megaton and Tenpenny
  • It would be great to be able to make vehicles out of spare parts, or at least drive a vehicle like a vertibird.
  • Weapons require too much repair
  • More quests
  • There should be the equivalent of The Arena from Oblivion where you can compete for titles and rare weapons
  • I very desperately wanted to toast the little brats at Little Lamplight with my Flamer...kids should be mortal!
  • I wanted to see some opportunities for simulated sex, or partial nudity, or something
  • I want a guided missile option for the missile launcher (the launcher's accuracy sucks, btw)
  • More Super Mutant Behemoths! They were the only real "boss" in the game and there were only 5 of them. Maybe have one or two as re-spawning behemoths in some areas
  • Clean up the game!!! I have never experienced so many bugs and freezes in any game I've ever played

What changes would you make?

1. If you want to see someone naked or have sex, do it in real life. It would ruin the game, undoubtedly. 2. There already is a lock-on for the Missile Launcher, but it only applies to metal objects. AreYouGoingToEatThatNukeSephirothAnimated - Nukey Blog - Nukey Talk 22:01, May 12, 2010 (UTC)

I would want some of the following:
  • Co-op. I think that in the place of a follower, you could have a person (or two, who knows) come in and join your game. I think it should be drop in/out type. I just think it'd be cool to have a small group to raid through and such. I mean, if Borderlands can do it, why can't Fallout?
  • And most of what you said.

I would make all the changes that Fallout Wanderer's Edition makes.--Gothemasticator 06:15, May 13, 2010 (UTC)
Yeah, its funny, just about every change listed (apart from multiplayer and maybe the guided missiles, though I think that's the default behavior in VATS) has already been made by a mod, even the stability issues (UFO3P, FOSR), if you're on a PC. Imp of the Perverse 21:08, May 13, 2010 (UTC)

What changes would you make?

If I'd been the bossman at Bethesda...

  • Rather than paying Ron Perlman to read a script for 90 seconds, I'd pay a couple of programmers to do a little bug testing before reaching for the shrink wrap. The number of game-breaking bugs, glitches and exploits is staggering and many of them are just so incredibly facepalm stupid.
  • I'd make the ammo stock for the merchants much, much larger. In every game, you end up with a massive pile of cash that you can't spend on anything, while also chronically short of most types of ammo. The Pitt's ammo press makes up for it somewhat and you can get all the 5.56mm you could ever need from the Outcasts, but what is the deal with the merchants only having a couple dozen or so rounds of ammo when they restock?
  • I'd change it so weapons don't do less damage when they're only slightly degraded. Let them jam more and more frequently and that would be fine and then let it affect accuracy/damage only after the condition falls below 50% or something. The drop in damage due to a tiny amount of wear is far too drastic on many weapons.
  • The sniper rifle needs to be redone. It is largely useless early in the game. Until the Small Guns skill is nearly maxed out, this rifle sways so much that there is little hope of taking an aimed shot with the scope. Even at maxed skill and zero sway, the bullet often doesn't seem to land where it's aimed at extreme range. It's also nearly impossible to keep in decent repair. I think it degrades a full 10% every time you even think about firing a shot.
  • Less friggin radscorps. Seriously, less friggin radscorps. Someone at Bethesda has a fetish or something.
  • The Talon/Regulator hit squad thing annoys the hell out of me. I would either remove that entirely or make it so you have to be at the top/bottom 10% of karma for it to happen (+ or - 900 karma).
I'd also change it so that altering karma in either direction happens in much smaller quantities. Every little thing you do gains lots of karma and very few things take it away and even then, it's mostly in small amounts. Just slugging Butch before you leave the vault so he'll leave the girl alone gives you enough positive karma to get a hit put on you. That's absurd.
  • I would change companions so they are not absolutely compelled to rush forward and bump into me every 10 seconds while I'm sneaking. This one thing keeps me from ever again using Dogmeat. At least I can tell the others to back off. While I'm at it, I'd remove their strange fondness for jumping directly into my line of fire.
  • If you can see it, you can shoot it. No more invisible walls that simply prompt me to announce my presence to a room full of hostiles.
  • The Super mutant Overlord, Ghoul Reaver and Albino Radscorpion would get a SERIOUS hit point nerf. Ever try to do the main quest in Vault 87 after you're past level 25 or so? Or the Presidential Metro? These creatures don't add enjoyment to the game, they add frustration.
As it is now...
Super mutant: 100HP
Brute: 250HP
Master: 360HP
Overlord: 1250HP
This is how Bethesda creates a new creature? By quadrupling the hit points of an existing creature? I'd cut these things down to 500 or 600 HP each.
  • I'd make one bed unowned in Megaton's common house so you can sleep in it. Really, there is literally NOWHERE nearby to sleep or securely stow things in the very beginning until you finish the quest with the atomic bomb. I get overencumbered before I even finish looting the houses in Springvale (although that's my fault for looting every piece of security armor from the vault).
  • I'd move all so-called "unarmed" weapons into the melee category. I'm sorry, but Fisto! is a weapon and, if you are tearing off somebody's head with it, you are not unarmed.
  • I'd create a few more areas where different NPC factions get into it on a regular basis. The battle for the Capitol Building is awesome to watch.
  • The Firelance event would never again occur in a rocky area. Ever. EVER.
  • I would fire the person who came up with the original, pre-Broken Steel ending. They created this whole, huge game-world full of buildings, caves and old subway tunnels to explore, created all those optional side-quests and let you play the game at your own pace. And then it all comes to an abrupt, screeching halt during the far-too-short main quest? Whoever came up with that...
And after handing out that particular pink slip, I would write an open letter to apologize to everyone who played the vanilla version. --97.73.64.155 03:47, May 15, 2010 (UTC)
  • Definitely more quests! Higher level cap. No NPC disappearence. more schemetics. less glitches. and for the love of god the ability to aim down the sights! God damn ghouls 19:45, May 31, 2010 (UTC)

MORE QUESTS! Higher level cap. no NPC disappearance
