Forum:Quests formatting, lists, names
Forums: Index > Wiki discussion > Quests formatting, lists, names
Morning, gents. I've completed a preliminary draft of the new format for quests, lists, and so on. I propose moving to implement it effective immediately.
Contents
Current issues
- Inconsistent formatting of titles: The biggest issue currently is that quest names are all over the place. We have inconsistent capitalization, random full stops (an artifact of the original formatting), and it makes us look deeply unprofessional.
- Strange formatting of article content: The walkthrough is convoluted. Why do we have a simple and detailed breakdown, when a single one works better? It's needlessly confusing.
- Lists are out of date: Going through the Fallout quests hub, I was surprised by the formatting and content, which was deeply out of date and inconsistent.
Fixes
- Unified quest name format: Drop periods, employ lowercase for descriptive names, capitalization for proper nouns, and do it for all the quests. Eg. Cure Jarvis of Radscorpion Poison. will become simply Cure Jarvis of radscorpion poison.
- Reformat articles as per this article. The Synopsis section will provide a brief summary of the situation that leads up to the quest, circumstances of note, etc. The Walkthrough section will contain an itemized list of steps required to complete it - without breaking into prose that obfuscates key facts.
- Review the quest lists for consistent formatting, accuracy, missing data, and remove columns that exist there just for the sake of being. The Alternative reward fields are particularly guilty, as there is no context to how what is tied to the reward. Also, move cut quests to separate headings to avoid misleading readers.

- #) Quests that have periods have them in the PIP-Boy, therefore you cannot remove them. (PIPBOY.MSG (Fallout) PIPBOY.MSG (Fallout 2))
- #) I always thought that the quick walkthrough section was for the PIP-Boy notes, similar to the Gamebryo quests. If it's only Gamebryo, then the format must reflect this.
- #) We must verify which is cut, broken, and which is the Killcap Mod.
- Actually, periods must be removed for consistency. It's a non-issue, really, as there will always be a redirect. Tagaziel (talk) 21:45, 17 August 2015 (UTC)
