Discussion[]

Since our game-specific portals (except for the FO3 one) lack proper featured article rotations, I was wondering whether you have any suggestions. Ausir has already started adding articles for FO1 (and FNV) but I guess with a little community effort we can get this done a bit faster :)

A full 366-day-rotation (like on the main page) seems a bit overkill for the game portals, but a 31-day-rotation should be doable and provide enough variety, so we need 31 featured articles for each game. I've added sections for the portals which need more featured articles (with the existing featured articles already included, marked in italics).

The only thing to keep in mind is that the articles should have a bit of type variation, i.e. there shouldn't only be character or item articles for a given portal. As a bonus, it'd be good if the article's topic was significant and/or unique to the given game.

Let's see what you can come up with :) -- Porter21 (talk) 23:16, January 13, 2010 (UTC)

I actually think that by now, a 366 rotation could also be possible, especially for Fallout 3, but with some effort also for other games. I'm a bit too lazy to do that now, though. :) Also keep in mind that the articles in question cannot be too short (as in, short enough that the whole article would fit in the featured box, like Spud (mascot) and should have images. Ausir(talk) 01:06, January 14, 2010 (UTC)
Are you telling me we can't have Spud?! Nitty Tok. 01:13, January 14, 2010 (UTC)
Yeah, as much as I love Spud, he's not much of a featured article. Ausir(talk) 01:20, January 14, 2010 (UTC)
Yeah, a full rotation is certainly possible for a couple of games but I didn't want to be overly ambitious :) I think we should get a decently-sized rotation for all portals first; we can always expand it later. -- Porter21 (talk) 11:30, January 14, 2010 (UTC)

For the Fallout 3 portal, I suggest the Lone Wanderer. Considering the game would be nothing without him/her, don't you think that's a good suggestion?--With care and happiness, 'Cut Off You Nose To Spider-Face450 DO IT! 02:55, January 14, 2010 (UTC)

Simply add any suggestions to the list(s) below. Ausir(talk) 03:09, January 14, 2010 (UTC)

Is the option to add articles to the Fallout 1 rotation still available? IMO, there's no way to include 366 feature-length stubs about characters / stuff from Fallout, but I would / could add a good 100+ articles. -- Ghouly89 (Talk) 09:21, December 27, 2010 (UTC)

Project V13 and New Vegas[]

I guess it'll be hard to find 31 articles for upcoming games. I could set it up so these portals cycle through a shorter list of articles instead. For example, if you have 10 articles, it'd display the first article on the 1st, 11th, 21st and 31st day of the month, the second article would be displayed on the 2nd, 12th and 22nd day of the month etc. Thoughts? -- Porter21 (talk) 11:37, January 14, 2010 (UTC)

Yeah, sounds good, although we'll likely have more articles for New Vegas next month. Ausir(talk) 11:54, January 14, 2010 (UTC)
I've made a template for the rotations (Portal featured article); all portals are now using it. For partial rotations, you simply need to adjust the articlecount parameter in the respective portal's main FA template (e.g. Wikiportal:Fallout/Featured article) when adding new articles. Once the rotation has 31 articles, you can remove the parameter completely (it doesn't do anything when set above 30 anyway). -- Porter21 (talk) 14:35, January 14, 2010 (UTC)
I've added the current list of suggestions for V13 to the rotation. I doubt we'll find any more articles at this point. -- Porter21 (talk) 21:13, January 16, 2010 (UTC)

Progress[]

I've added the featured articles for the Fallout portal to the rotation, except for a few which I'd suggest to replace with something else:

  • Flare and Mental Block: Short articles.
  • Tony Postma: While not short since it has a lot of images, it has little text - plus the rotation is somewhat real-life-person heavy anyway.
  • Rescue Tandi from the Raiders.: Not sure whether quests make for good featured articles.
  • Tony Jay I'd also put up for consideration because of the real-life-person heaviness argument.

For variation, I'd replace these with 2 creatures (only 2 in the rotation), 1-2 non-weapon items and another location. The rotation also has rather many characters (7), so 1-2 of these could also be replaced in my opinion. -- Porter21 (talk) 12:29, January 16, 2010 (UTC)

FO1 portal rotation complete unless we want to replace a few of the character articles. -- Porter21 (talk) 15:25, January 16, 2010 (UTC)
Added rotation for FO2 portal - only FOT and VB are left without rotation now. Someone else can do these, I've had enough of creating featured articles for now :P -- Porter21 (talk) 15:35, January 17, 2010 (UTC)
FOBOS portal rotation complete and added. -- Porter21 (talk) 21:13, January 16, 2010 (UTC)
VB rotation added. Only FOT left. -- Porter21 (talk) 15:50, January 20, 2010 (UTC)
All portals have a 31-day-rotation now. I think we should keep this topic for future suggestions, after all it's possible we have overlooked a few good articles or others will be improved to the point they could replace an existing one. So, if you have any article in mind which should be featured on one of the portals, feel free to mention it below in the respective section. -- Porter21 (talk) 19:49, January 23, 2010 (UTC)
