A pair of flies consuming rotting fruit in Arroyo[1]
LocationThe wasteland

Flies are an order of winged insects that survived the Great War.

Common flies weathered the apocalypse and came out seemingly unmutated. Their ecological niche remains unaltered as well: people view flies as little more than pests or vectors for disease, but they serve a vital role in the consumption of detritus. Much to the irritation of ghouls, this means that flies feed on the nutrients of their rotting bodies.[2][3]

Flies appear Fallout 2 and are mentioned in Fallout 3[4] and Fallout: New Vegas.[5]

The Chosen One: "{115}{}{Why are the flies coming here?}"
Eric: "{124}{}{They come here because for some odd reason I exude fly nutrients. My body is rich with food for them, and this sweating just makes it worse.}"
The Chosen One: "{125}{}{That's just plain nasty. Why not take a bath or something?}"
Eric: "{128}{}{I've tried that. I've tried everything. The only thing that keeps the flies off me is not to sweat... and when I don't have enough power to keep cool, I can't.}"
