A special alien blaster with a different design and color compared to others alien weapons and using small energy cells, which could indicate that this a weapon prototype was to avoid having to replenish alien power cell in Earth. It shoots a purple electric bolt and is particularly devastating as a close range weapon.

According to the Fallout demo the Small energy cell alien blaster's item name was originally going to be called "Alien laser pistol".^[1]

Behind the scenes[]

The various alien blasters throughout the Fallout series that are refereed to as Firelance is a cultural reference to an identically named Martian weapon appearing in the Wasteland Paragraphs, in the red herring Mars plot.
