Deathclaw promontory is an unmarked location in Fallout: New Vegas, on the eastern side of the Colorado River across from the Lucky Jim Mine and Cliffside Prospector Camp.

Layout[]

The promontory is a vast area overlooking the Colorado River. As the name suggests, it's a place frequented by packs of deathclaws. Depending on the player's level, there can be anywhere from just a few to several dozen deathclaws skulking among the rocks and passages of the promontory, including multiple alpha and mother deathclaws at high levels. The reward for braving these dangers is the only set of Remnants power armor available without Arcade Gannon's quest, a factionless T-51b power armor, and lots of deathclaw eggs, as well as fields of broc flowers and xander root.

It goes without saying that this is a very late-game area only for the most well-equipped players and followers. Note that the level geometry is very uneven and rough, which means that followers can get stuck or fall through it, making the combat that much harder.

Bugs[]

  • PCIcon pc PlayStation 3Icon ps3 Xbox 360Icon xbox360 Some deathclaws might not spawn until the player fast travels to the area or reloads. It's advised to keep a separate save, as the bugged deathclaws might spawn literally in the player's face. Other bugs involve deathclaws trapped in level geometry, VATS attacks trapping the player in the level geometry, and so on and so forth.
  • The rough finish means bodies and other objects might glitch through the ground. In this case, the cell needs to be reset, which requires 73 hours of in-game time to pass while the cell is unloaded. Entering the area at any time resets the timer.
