Overview

Consumables are which, when ingested or consumed by a character, provide various effects. These items can be accessed through the "Aid" section of a players Pip-Boy 3000 menu.

Skill effect

The effectiveness of some aid consumables in Fallout 3 can be directly dependent on the player character's Medicine or Repair skill. The higher the skill level, the greater the beneficial properties. A skill maxed out at 100 points can provide up to three times the benefits that a consumable would normally provide at its base value.

Food sanitizer effect

Main article: Food sanitizer

The food sanitizer is awarded after finding medicine in the Super-Duper Mart as part of the The Wasteland Survival Guide quest, given by Moira Brown, along with the note sanitizer instructions. According to the in-game dialogue, it will cleanse most food in the inventory of harmful bacteria, allowing greater nutritional gain.

The food sanitizer has a passive effect on the player as long as it is in the player's inventory. While in the player's inventory, the food sanitizer will increase the health restorative value of most food by +20%, but has no effect on the radiation rating of the food. This bonus is conferred at the cost of weight; the food sanitizer has a weight of 7 lbs.
