Fallout: Wasteland Warfare combat occurs in turns as each side attempts to achieve its objectives, whether they be wiping the other player's units out in direct combat or simply surviving long enough.
Overview[]
In each turn, a model has two actions they can take. The success of actions is determined by each models' SPECIAL stats, displayed prominently on their unit cards. One of the more interesting wrinkles introduced by the system is the use of colored ranges in lieu of the usual numbered distances.
For example, each unit has a movement range displayed, one yellow (for standard move actions) and the other green (for charging). Together they represent the maximum distance a model can move in a turn, with the latter used when they are close enough to the enemy. Moving characters using range sticks is easy and precise, as each has notches and numbers representing their movement speed.
The effectiveness of ranged attacks is also determined using these sticks, as the effect dice rolled to determine the damage done depend on whether the target is within close range (blue sticks) or long range (red sticks).
The colors are also used for other purposes, like awareness, command, blast damage, distances during set-up, determining falling damage, and more, all speeding up the gameplay.
